Stay away! I never leave reviews like this, but they kind of forced my hand.
I ordered sushi and received calamari. Yeah, that's right. I ordered the SUSHI platter for one and received a CALAMARI dish! Not sure how you screw that up, but hey they managed to do just that.
Want to know the best part? We placed the order with the manager or owner. She even repeated it to us twice and they still couldn't get it right.
Seriously, how do you confuse calamari with sushi? I'm honestly curious.
And they must have known, because they were standing ready by the entrance with the food so probably just wanted us out of their and on route home when we finally did notice.
And to top it off everything is cold and the calamari they decided to give me instead of my sushi is like rubber. I'm trying to drown it in sauce as I'm typing this just to compensate for this poor excuse for a meal I paid over R150 for.
But to keep this constructive and not just mean; if you're looking for good sushi go to RED LANTERN!!! Best sushi you will taste in your life! You'll pay half the price for double the sushi, and honestly their sushi is something special. The rest of their menu is also incredible!
And if you're looking for good seafood try 180 Degrees, or even Spur. Fishaways is always superbly fresh and affordable. And if you're looking for something more exotic check out Patiala Curry! You won't be dissapointed.
But avoid Ocean Basket (specifically the one the mall)...

My kingklip was raw, literally dipped in oil for the batter to color a bit (note the bit), when the fish arrived to the table it was cold inside, watery and still transparent (characteristics of raw fish) I can not ought enough on how important it is to keep fish at a safe temperature zone in order to prevent bacterial growth and food poisoning from happening. I gave the restaurants another chance by ordering pasteis de nata. What a mistake I have made. I ordered a triple portion two of them were still cold (not even placed inside of the oven to attempt serving the dish correctly) and one of them was a little warm. The customer service here is absolutely ridiculous and the management seems to be not attentive or there is a huge lack of training which could be very alarming for the ocean...
Read moreBeen here a couple of times before, but the day I took photos and decided to review it was a very disappointing one. Not sure why because the restaurant was not busy at all. We normally order our drinks, starters and mains all at once as we have a standard order everytime. Drinks took about 20 minutes to get to the table, starters about half and hour and mains after 1 hour. The fire cracker squid was not crispy at all, very wet batter. Oysters were ok, not the best. The platter for 2 had soggy/soft calamari heads(normally crispy). Rice was a bit chalky and the the chips tasted very old. The prawns, calamari tubes, mussels and fish was nice but the small stuff ruined the experience. Not sure why but they need to pick up their service or they are going to start...
