23 on Rubenstein — Restaurant in Gauteng

In a very actively traded (some would say over-traded, and they wouldn't be wrong...) market segment, it takes something special for an establishment to stand out. 23 On Rubenstein manages to do so, with ease. An excellent location, sufficient (FREE!!!) parking, comfortable surroundings, tables not squashed together, and a very diverse menu (more on this shortly) already give 23 an edge. Add competent, friendly service and generous portions, and you have a winning formula. It's no wonder that this place is always busy.

Ok, enough generalisations. The menu is diverse enough to cover almost every taste and dietary requirement. I had a cheeseburger with chips, and it was honestly one of the best I have ever had. A large, succulent, obviously home made beef patty, fresh lettuce and tomato, generous garnish and slice of cheese and a tasty but not overwhelming barbecue basting, accompanied by crunchy, well cooked and seasoned chips (obviously freshly prepared), all contribute to putting this burger at tge top of my list. My wife ordered a "Waffle Hollandaise", which turned out to be extremely interesting and very tasty, and is but one example of the diversity of the menu. We ordered a slice of Ferero Roche chocolate cake to share for dessert, and more than half of it came home with us. Oh, and the coffee is excellent! Prices are on the high side but when balanced against the size and quality of the portions, are actually very reasonable. Our waitron Tendai was attentive and efficient, and our whole order arrived at the same time! I could go on and on... This restaurant is DEFINITELY worth visiting....

I don't typically write reviews but the experience I had was just absolutely terrible. My mother and I went to have a coffee on Monday and was planning to book a table for my 30th birthday next month. Our waiter was very friendly and provided great service although the management is just absolutely ridiculous. After asking to speak to the manager, I believe his name was Kevin or Kyle, the waiter informed us that he was just busy and that he would be with us shortly. After 15 min of waiting with no sight of management on the floor we asked our waiter if he was going to be long. He said he would find out and walked over to a man standing in the parking lot talking with bull security. I thought it might be because of a security concern but after waiting for 45 min only to see that it was not work related we gave up. It took a full hour for the manager to finish his conversation with bull security and attend to paying customers. in that time we ordered, finished and paid for our drinks. Needless to say I will not be making a booking here. The poor waiter had to apologize for the actions of his manager. Just utterly...

Just wanted to get out of the house so popped in here for a quick bite, I had the noodles with teriyaki sauce and chicken, cashews, spinach, Danish feta, and caramelised onions. Can honestly say that was the tastiest bowl of noodles I've had in years. Just brilliant! Menu has a nice selection of light meals, meaty meals and vegetarian dishes, not to mention the funky fruit and veg health drinks. Well worth a visit!

30 May 2022: Had a shawarma today, just the standard falafel one, it was brilliant, the pastry of the shawarma is superb and the filling is fresh and tasty. Lovely! And my wife's pesto penne was very good too.
