Our family members have been regulars for more than 20 years as it was originally owned by a relative. Recently we have not been too satisfied with the cleanliness and hygiene. Last Sunday, 31st Dec 2023, food was served with a cockroach cooked in the masala/spice and easily visible on the platter. Bathroom was stinking, basin was clogged with tissue paper. Linen are stained by food. I can agree that this was caused by customers but the managers and staff are a 3 meters away from the bathroom and should be checking regularly. Wait staff are attentive and service is reasonably good. The atmosphere has declined in part due to the area being plagued by crime, beggars, foreigners, illegal immigrants, etc. And the locals (SA citizens) avoiding these restaurants has resulted overall to a rather mediocre to disappointing experience. Lastly, IndoPak food was a hit amongst locals mostly due to the pricing and the novelty of accessing halaal restaurant food that has variety (Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Meat dishes). Locals are now prioritizing cleanliness, hygiene and so these places have lost their charm. In addition, the pricing has increased to the extent that it does not present value for money. Eg. Chicken costing R40-R50 in Mayfair prepared as Chicken Tikka (Tikka masala marinade and grilled on an open fire) charged at...
