Disappointing Experience Hosting an Event at Buitengeluk
I recently hosted an event at Buitengeluk, and unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. Although the staff who served us were pleasant, the overall service left a lot to be desired.
Upon arrival, the gentleman at the door offered no help directing our guests to our seating area. Most guests had to find their own way, resulting in one friend mistakenly sitting at the wrong table for a while. We also walked in with a melting cake due to the hot weather, and though the staff watched us struggle, they only assisted after repeated requests. Even after asking for the cake to be stored in the fridge, it was left out for over an hour, melting further and attracting flies. This lack of attentiveness made us feel unsupported throughout the event.
Later, when it came time to cut the cake, we were informed there would be a R25 per person fee for slicing — a policy only communicated after the fact. Though we weren’t ultimately charged, it felt unreasonable that basic services weren’t included.
Brittany Tar, our events manager, only appeared at the end to accuse us of not paying the bill. Her attitude was unfriendly, rude, and entirely unhelpful, leaving us feeling as though our presence was more of a burden than anything. Additionally, we booked for 29 guests but ended up with seating for only 26. The food, priced at R245 per person, was unimpressive and did not justify the cost.
Overall, I left feeling stressed and unsupported by the restaurant staff. It seemed clear that if you don’t use their services for event planning, the experience suffers. I can’t recommend Buitengeluk for hosting events as it simply doesn’t offer...
Read moreWow! Is all I can say. Well actually I can say more, but the wow factor of this place is right up there! They have the most exquisite green garden that wraps around a pond which is snugly nestled in the middle of it with greenery hugging it's sides. The pond has little streams of water shooting up from it and along with the birds this creates a subtle and calming background. The menu is well priced and the food delicious. The only issue is getting there. Google maps are very disappointing when it comes to navigating there. When you turn off the main road be sure to pass the first parking lot entrance to the Broadacres centre. Then keep an eye out for the second entrance about 150m past the first. There is a black gate just next to the second entrance through which you need to go to get to Buitengeluk Main. There is a kiddie section, Buitengeluk Play, if you want to take your kids. For that it is best to park in the Broadacres parking lot and use the entrance through there. I've not entered from that side, but I know it is a possibility. Note that you will either be served from Buitengeluk Main or Buitengeluk Play. If it starts raining you will have to sit in their respective buildings which are both lovely. It is just a bit annoying if parked at Main but have to sit at Play and have to walk further in the rain to your vehicle. So when being seated, make sure which one your waiter is...
Read moreCalled to confirm booking day of, the person who answered was very rude and dismissive with his one word answers and just put the phone down on me. When I got there they didn't have the right booking after I confirmed on the phone 3 hrs earlier and when our lovely waiter sat us down at a table we booked 2 weeks before, one of the manageresses passive aggressively accused me of booking the wrong area. The food was drenched in salt (all 6 meals) and was not worth the price (the pork belly wasn't pork belly at all, my dad is a butcher so we know it wasn't it). There was a loud singer that couldn't keep a tune that ruined the atmosphere, we left without having more drinks, coffee or dessert because it was so bad. There were some women in front of the little conservatory doing upside down twerks with hot pants on that my family and I took videos of because my 60 yr old mother who's birthday it was had never seen that before. The bathrooms were disgusting and they served us with plastic teaspoons and plastic straws. The menus were sticking together and stained. My brothers car's left mirror was broken off his car and the guard was nowhere to be found. I've had better experiences at Wimpy. Would...
