This was the fourth tine eating here...
I had the Binh Ma sandwich and Asian salad. Sandwich was very taste but really had too much sauce on it and the baguette was a bit too small given the nature of this classic Vietnamese sandwich. This kind of sandwich needs a thicker wider French baguette that one can sink their teeth into. The Asian salad: the noodles were not right, some how. Like they were undercooked or something was just off. An hour later the sauce on the two items was a bit too much for my stomach. I think if the chef had these too items, they would have agreed with me. I think it was the amount of sauce and not the quality of ingredients. The ingredients seem to be very good! I believe if the chef tried hard but final execution needs some attention and review. If you order the sandwich, order with very light sauce. This would bring out the other flavors and lighten the intensity greatly.
The acoustics are needing of attention as it was hard to hear others speak at my table. Maybe some sound absorbing tiles are necessary given the composition of the walls, ceiling and floor covering.
I think that the sweaty spandex weekend crowd is not my thing, but to each their own.
This may not be my kind of place but is one of the best options in the immediate area for breakfast and lunch. I think the way to maximize this spot is to sit outside and enjoy the sights and sounds of Parkview and have a coffee or simple meal on a weekday when the crowds are small and...
Read moreCroft & Co is the quintessential coffee stop for any cyclist or runner in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.
They are open from 5am during the week, which makes a convenient stop for cyclists and runners to grab a cup of coffee before heading home. Additionally, your bike is expertly guarded by Brian who also offers a wash service on weekends.
It's a fantastic restaurant with tables that look out on to the beautiful leafy streets surrounding the Zoo Lake area.
The coffee is fantastic and they also do a delicious chocolate milkshake. The banana bread (ask for it to be extra toasty - trust me on this one) is spectacular. The rest of the menu is also superb with the breakfast burger and breakfast bun being firm favourites.
Friendly service, always with a smile. The energy of the owners is also infectious. It's just a lekker place to be.
Simply put, in Johannesburg, no one does the early morning café stop like Croft & Co. An absolute...
Read moreThe worst I have ever been treated by staff in my entire dining experience. The cafe closes at 15:00. We walked in at 14:30 - unaware of their closing time. We were ushered in but told we can only order from the drinks menu as the kitchen is closed. This was not the problem as we only wanted something to drink. However, the staff treated us as an absolute burden. Our drinks were ordered with barely any time given to choose, not even five minutes. We were served by three separate waitresses each with an equally bad attitude and manurism. Closing etiquette clearly does not exist at this establishment - whatever you do don't go after 14:00. Our bill was brought to us without us asking for it. The waitress rushed off before we could even ask her for a takeaway cup for one of our drinks. I have never been met with so much animosity by staff - worst...
