The Park still looks beautiful however it’s standard is deteriorating fast. We arrived to a park that was full of so much litter everywhere. We wanted to braai and the public braai stands have been damaged and there are people that are charging you money to use the braai stands because you have to use their tools since the ones belonging to the Park have been damaged such a co-incident and security is there doing nothing about it but taking bribes. Visitors of the parks have made the park a grooving spot without considering that the public space should be friendly even for kids and family time. Our visit was rather not satisfying, so many people coming to ask for either money food etc every second, camera men bothering us with taking pictures now and then. The park is not peaceful as it used to be and it’s only just getting worse. NB: to the people visiting the park, please clean after yourselves and pick up the litter when you are done, it’s a common decent thing to do for the next people that come.

Open public spaces are rare in Jozi so when one finds one that has been around for very long and is still ok to take your doggo for a walk and have a picnic and go boating on a little lake full of ducks and geese, it is a rare gem indeed. There is also a Moyo in the park which I did not go into but looked like it was popular. The walkway around the lake is paved and the grass well maintained. There were a lot of cars along the road with blaring music which added to the ambiance of laughing kids and soccer playing dads. I felt safe as I wandered around wishing I had packed a lunch so I could stay a bit longer. Well done Joburg

The park and picnic area around the artificial lake is a little bit in disrepute, look like Park and Recreation is not maintaining the garden or the plants and the walkways are filthy. People are having picnics and parties on the lawn area and them they just leave the empty bottle and plastic containers on the grass. Where is our pride as South Africans to clean up behind us, it is a public area, after all, please learn to keep it clean for the next person to enjoy. The is a 5km Myrun every Sunday morning starting at 8 in the morning, please for all the runners out there come and join us.

You will find the Big Five here. It is a an educational experience for the children. Arrive early so you can see all the diverse animals here. If visiting with younger children be prepared with snacks and water. There is a spot to buy light refreshments but it’s nothing heavy. There are ample seating spots making it easy to rest and there are restrooms around for visits. There is also a section in the zoo that has free WiFi, a children’s play space and friendly peacocks freely walking around. It is a serene environment and guaranteed for a full day of fun, games and learning for the children.i hope to visit again. The animals are as much as possible placed in their natural habitat. It was fun to see the lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants, hippos . Enjoyed the visit....

For a picnic, it's pleasant. For a braai, not a chance!! There's a separate braai area (Really BAD Condition!!) with tons of beggars around, all asking you for something before you've even had a chance to sit down. The car guards harass you, claiming R20 per car for parking, when there are clear boards and signs up that say parking is free. Not like they did their job when paid either (our cars were still vandalized). The security are picky, they patrol mostly in the morning giving innocent people a hard time, but around the afternoon when there are clearly more violators around, they are no where to be seen. It wasnt all bad, paddle boats are fun, separate kids area. Overall, Don't braai, ...
