The woman treats the staff terribly - she shouts at them from her chair to make coffee. Underlying racism from all the white people in the way in which they speak to the wait- and kitchen staff.
The coffee is horrid. Most definitely NOT a flat white and weak and awful coffee considering that there are some decent roasters out there in Jozi.
Slim pickings for vegetarians and none for vegans. The Belgian waffle is NOT a proper Belgian waffle. It's thin, flowershaped and dry. The so called grasshopper is greasy and the veg are soggy and overcooked with a nasty dressing on top of all the butter and oil. Worst vegetarian meal I have ever been offered - inedible.
I wanted to book the entire venue for an event and asked about wheelchair access (which, BTW is a back route kinda nasty situation which will most definitely not make anyone in a wheelchair feel welcome).
Whilst waiting for my meal, the owner's children arrived loudly as if the entire space belongs to them and they played handheld games/cellphone games whilst sitting at a table next to us at a high noiselevel so much so that we could not converse. I know many owners that have their kids come to their restaurants but all of these owners ensure their children do not interfere with the comfort of guests.
I was told by the woman (later I was told by the owner that it is his mother) that they serve meals that people request so um. Why do they have no vegan meals on the menu? Must have alienated potential customers (see other reviews) and I don't think I have ever had such a disrespectful and nasty interaction with any owner/manager at any restaurant. By the way, the chips that accompanied the awful sandwich were cold, oily and undercooked. The tables are sticky with years of dirt or a terrible varnish job - I don't know which option is worse!
I was told that the staff said I was very rude towards the woman (which is completely untrue as I was kind and gentle with the lovely waitress throughout and I gave a 20 percent tip, because the menu and the awful meal is not her fault and I saw how she was treated by both owner and the woman so she would not have said that).Seeing how white people treat black people badly, always upsets me. When I wanted to discuss this I was told that they refuse me access to their restaurant (and pointed at the restricted access sign above the door).
Throughout our time there two men and two women (it seems that this is a family situation) kept on walking into our space and talking so loudly about renovations etc that we had to stop our conversation till they left the space. They were also clambering on ladders to write on walls all the while loudly speaking and chattering with one another and the children as if there is no customers a mere 2 m away.
When I told the owner that I will not recommend this awful place, I was threatened that he WILL in fact respond to my review. So I am sure he will treat me in the same disrespectful way he spoke to other people that left negative reviews.
I am not surprised that there were no other customers in this restaurant. Maybe the rest of the area have realised what I realized today.
I hope that the world sees there is no place for rude, racist and awful restaurant owners that treat staff and customers badly and are not inclusive of all. That the world spends money at establishments that are worthy, which this one is not. I know that as an event overseer, I will never use or recommend this awful restaurant and am in fact appalled at the food experience, coffee and interaction I had today.

Read moreI have only heard good things of this coffee shop. Thus, I decided to give it a visit last week. Upon my arrival, it was a cozy little venue that looked well set up. I was also impressed by the coffee machine that the Restaurant had. After ordering Cappuccinos (As this is what we came for) We decided to visit the roastery and see how they roast their beans. We were told that the bean that were roasted there are not the same beans that are used at the restaurant. This made us skeptical, as we were excited to try the coffee from the roastery. We went back to our Table at the restaurant where we were presented with our Cappuccino. After the first taste, I was dissapointed by how weak the coffee was. Thus I asked the waiter if she could make the Cappuccino stronger as this one tasted like milk. After a bit of confusion, she took the Cappuccino back to the kitchen and added another espresso shot to the Cappuccino (Over extracted and burnt) The Cappuccino was then bought back as displayed in the photo, and tasted horrible! I was hoping for a new, Stronger Cappuccino, But was presented with something far from that. I will probably be purchasing beans from the roastery again as I enjoyed their beans and taster coffee that I was given. As for the restaurant, I don't think I will be...
Read moreWHAT a total, total let down and utter disappointment for a gorgeous-gorgeous place with SO much potential!! So, I visited the place for the first time, 8 weeks ago ( I decided to 'neutralise' my emotions before posting my review!!) Although I never planned on returning after my first disappointing visit, I thought let me do what I do best, COMMUNICATE!! So, I went there ASKED for the manager, please, the manager is STILL coming, as I'm typing.... 🙄🙄🙄
