Fern Creek Spur — Restaurant in Gauteng

If I had the option to give no stars I would. What an absolutely horrible experience today with you guys. We arrived at the door, 2 kids on hand and not one person was at the door to show us to our table - we waited 10 minutes.

Eventually we helped ourselves to a table because my son was excited to go and play, and were promptly told that trolleys are not allowed in the restaurant.

We waited an hour for our food - my mom was questioned about her age when she asked for the seniors meal. Even after showing her ID the waitress still was hesitant to give her the meal. She also did not receive the dessert that comes with the combo meal.

In the play area, the child minder was shouting at my son (who has a speech delay so he is unable to communicate verbally), I went in to explain to her and asked for a tag, she told me roughly where they are and mumbled when I asked for a pen to write my details on the tag.

When we were leaving, I asked for a takeaway cup for my sons milkshake. While pouring out the milkshake that the waitress didn’t bother to help with, the glass slipped, fell and broke.

All the staff around us looked at us as if we were responsible for a homicide scene. What a horrible experience. It was hot as hell in the play area as well, no one even bothered to put the air on on when it’s 34 degrees out. We (four adults), went to Spur for breakfast as a family. Looking forward to that yummy Spur “Unreal Breakfast “. Unfortunately, sometimes the attitude of the serving staff is not complimentary to the food, but makes for an unpleasant experience.

Our waitress was nonchalant, displayed a clear lack of customer service training. Spoke to us in a disinterested, almost unfriendly tone, did not smile once, and although towards the end of the meal she checked in with us, by then we just wanted to finish our meal and leave.

To add to the offhand attitude, she didn’t pay much attention to us. We ordered white toast and when she brought brown instead, we pointed it out. But she made it seem like we wanted to “change” our choice.

By the time the first food item arrived, we had no placemats and when we mentioned this to the person who served us this item, she laughed in our faces, walked away and returned with the placemats at the same time as our waitress came with the rest of the food.

I don’t generally write negative reviews, but, like it or not, this is my experience, and I hope that management might read it and offer training and support to their staff.

Good food + good service = good experience.

I was really looking forward to a nice evening out with my partner at Spur, as it had been a while since we had been there. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing and a significant letdown.

The service was a major issue from the start. We weren't provided with cutlery, and we had to specifically ask for salt and pepper, which only arrived after our food had already been delivered.

The atmosphere was far from the pleasant dining experience we were hoping for. There was constant loud shouting from the waiters and whistling from the kitchen staff, which made for a very unprofessional and noisy environment. This completely ruined the chance for a relaxing dinner.

The final straw was the handling of my leftovers. When I asked for my food to be put in a takeaway container, the waiter proceeded to scrape the food from my plate into the container right in front of me. This lack of basic hospitality and professionalism was shocking.

This is not the standard of service anyone expects from Spur. The entire experience felt like a complete disregard for customer care, and it’s a clear sign that a return visit is out of the...
