Piatto Alberton — Restaurant in Gauteng

I always like this restaurant and their food.. Unfortunately I booked a Christmas lunch for 4 at this restaurant.. What a disaster.. I made my booking far in advance, ask for a round table inside and a baby seat.. Arrived on time which i was booked for.. we were seated in the far end by the play area where it was not suitable for a small baby as it was raining and quite chilli....I did ask for a better table which I was told they will give one the moment one is available.. Still waiting.. not even a sorry that they have put me in a cold forgotten corner at the farest end of the restaurant, Secondly the menu charge for a set menu range from 259 - to 429 it is not worth it, the food utterly boring from 1 choice of pizza to 1 or 2 choice of pasta and a few other diff choices depending on your set menu choice , the waiter did not serve us the way he was supposed to, mains were taking for ever and almost tasteless, my daughter had chicken snitzel it was dry as hell.. we were waiting on our drinks not once but 3 times and asked more than once where our drinks are .. Piatto I'm really disappointed in your service and food today. . I will not support you again for a Christmas lunch..learnt my lesson Once...

Previously, when I was there, everything was great. However, this review is based on my last visit. Ordered their BJC burger, but it was burnt to a point of being inedible. Bacon was dry that it broke into multiple tiny pieces, patty was black that the char stained the bun and you could taste the burn. Turned it back, and the waitress was stunned at why. Thankfully, they remade the burger, and it was good. The manager came to apologize even though I did not make a fuss. So, I appreciate his attentiveness to customers. The problem was the waitress, who kept avoiding us after when called 🙄 after, and she never focused. We wanted to also get dessert 🍨 but never did. Paying for the bill was a nightmare as she dropped the bill, was not looking at us, and kept on attending to others whilst still busy. We still gave 10% tips. But I think the waitress needs to learn to take complaints gracefully and still offer 100% service to patrons post complaints. We understand it's not her fault, and mistakes do happen. Today, I remembered why I don't go to Piatto often. Premium priced food, but inferior quality. This isn't the first time that I've had bad steak at Piattos Alberton. I ordered a surf and turf from them which is advertised as the Chef's Choice meal but it was anything but a choice meal. The fries were okay. The prawns were dry and overcooked. But the steak stole the show. An extremely poorly butchered piece of meat, which was about 20% fat. It was chewy and impossible to break down before swallowing. Also, it had a weird taste. I was put off after the first bite and sent it back.

My wife ordered a well-done steak as she does not like her meat pink and this came medium rare.

They offered me a new meal or a 50% discount on my meal. I choose the discount as at this point, I was nauseous.

I don't know if it's just the Alberton branch that uses inferior quality meat or if this is a group wide problem.

Definitely won't be going there again. I can go to restaurants that are half the price if I want a poor quality...
