Reasonable food. Local. The breakfast is quite cool it always feels like they opened the restaurant just for you. I have always have the mince and eggs on toast. Wish they had flavoured cuppacinos. Evening is quite full certain nights especially on the nights that the loyalty card is valid. You get a large percentage off all your food in the bill...I think it's definitely worth it. I have the steaks and sometimes the burger. My friends really like the ribs and chicken. The Mediterranean player used to be a favourite when visiting with a group. Wine selection is ok. Tge place is festive during major rugby matches with lots of TVs to watch on, though usually the sound is not turned up so it's watching only for other events. You do need to book for those big events. The outside seating is a good place for your group of friends if you know you're going to get a bit rowdy or if you have some smokers in amongst the people who are joining you. The parking can be difficult at busy times but booking is seldom necessary and hanging about with a social drinker or two while you wait for a table is...
Read moreWe went in for lunch on a Sunday as part of Restaurant Week. We were seated right away because the restaurant was practically empty. As we placed our orders, we noticed that the staff was unaware that it was restaurant week.
We ordered the starter and main from the two-course set menu. The Prawn National starter comprised of prawns sautéed in garlic butter and peri peri sauce. The dish was quite large for an appetizer, and the prawns were cooked fairly well. The baby kingklip was my main course, and according to the set menu, it should have come with mango salsa. Unfortunately, there was no mango salsa. Although the fish dish was large, it was not pan seared as described on the menu. Instead, it was panko crumbed; I may not have chosen this dish if I had known beforehand.
Overall, I thought the cooking was okay but not particularly outstanding. It would be beneficial for the staff to become acquainted with the restaurant week menu in order to be better...
Read moreWe pre arranged our Christmas office lunch for Friday 20 December 2024 with the team at the Baron. Our area was reserved but our waitress was extremely unfriendly. Our drinks orders took forever to arrive, we waited about an hour for a beer that was on tap when it arrived it was hot and no longer had any fizz left. We paid directly for our drinks and the waitress kept changing the prices of the drinks. Some staff had to beg for their change and others paid R200 for 2 beers as they never received their change. The food was cold and dried out. The meat was not even the right size for the portion. The onion rings was so dried out could have been days old. A chicken pasta serving did not even have chicken inside. This was such a let down for a Christmas lunch. Thank you Baron staff for making this the worst Christmas lunch we have ever had, for my staff to leave feeling done in...
