I popped into The Codfather on a chilly Winter's evening to grab a cappuccino to go (I intended to go to the Manaka Coffee Shop next door but that was closed). I was pleasantly surprised by what I discovered. It has a warm and welcoming ambiance and peculiar decor that masks its small size (at least indoors - I noticed they have outside seating). The decor is tasteful, characterised by hanging lights and other effects from the high ceiling, and the arrangement works well to integrate the downstairs and upstairs dining areas. Immediately on arrival, I was attended to by friendly waitrons (I had contact with three of them) and was made to feel special. I was disappointed in myself that I did not get the name of the gentleman who served me - he was so friendly and efficient, I would have loved to have mentioned him by name. I also thought the ice-cream bar (with such an appetising selection I was glad I didn't have my kids with me otherwise I know I'd have ended up spending a fortune!!) and wine bar, both of which are stationed outside the glass frontage of the business, were a lovely touch. Having assumed it from the name, I got confirmation from a waitron that their specialty is sea food. I look forward to going over on my next visit to Jozi and trying out some items from their menu. A venue I...
Read moreThe food at this restaurant is good. No question about that (4/5). My low rating is related to the drinks, in particular the wines. They have an excellent range of wines to choose from. However, the prices are absolutely unjustified. As a wine enthusiast and collector, I have personally bought and tasted several of the wines they have on offer. From a brief glance at their wine menu, it appears that they are charging DOUBLE and sometimes even 2.5x the normal cost of that wine at any supermarket/wine estate. (They are by no means the only restaurant to do this; but such extensive mark-ups are usually only seen in highly exclusive fine dining establishments, and is also unjustified in my opinion ). Whilst I do understand that all restaurants have to mark-up their drinks in order to make a profit, the extent of the mark-up on their wines is absurd. This for me was a ridiculous rip-off. So much so, that I ordered a beer to drink, when all I really wanted was a good bottle of wine to pair with our meal. To make matters worse, I called the restaurant in advance and asked if I could pay a corkage fee and bring my own bottle of wine from home, to which they replied that they don't allow outside wines. Will not return...
Read moreVery beautiful restaurant with very comfortable furniture. Great atmosphere for a relaxed time with family, friends or as a couple. Upstairs seating is more beautiful with a great view of Waterfall City. The atmosphere is 5 star.
The food is prepared so well with amazing flavours. The portions are generous, but I don't believe that the lamb ribs are 400g as they claim. Extensive menu with lots of seafood options. All their fish are tasty and fresh. Dessert: the ice creams are amazing but avoid the "nutty chocolate brownie" - very horrible and super moist. Otherwise, the food is 5 star.
The service is a major disappointment! Even places like Spur and Wimpy have better service. The waitresses who have served us were nonchalant and absent. The only thing she managed to bring before we even forgot that we asked for it was the bill. 👎🏾 When we asked for tomato suave she told me that they didn't have any. Unbelievable! There is a Super Spar next door, go buy tomato sauce. But thankfully she brought some some 15 minutes later. Great food should be accompanied by great service! Unfortunately, here the...
