Our waiter Blessing was not friendly at all. He did not introduce himself, nor greet us well and did not smile at all. Upon arrival I requested a glass of water with lemon an ice. He did not ask if we would like anything else. When he brought my water he did not ask "if he could get us anything else". He walked away. We had to call him to ask him "if we could order drinks"? . I ordered a Brazilian Caprienha. He brought it in a whiskey glass which is meant to be served in it there. He brought me a long straw for it. I requested him to "please cut it", he looked annoyed. I told him it was "to sweet an the ingredients had not been crushed and mixed well". He did not seem perturbed. He called the manager who was very friendly an told me "it was served like that in order for it to not be watered down" fair enough but they could have rather used a Margherita glass. Zero points for presentation. He stated cane sugar was needed because it's strong. I know cane sugar is needed but they added to much. It was really not pleasant at all. The menu stated "crushed ice" but it was blocks. Totally over priced considering they do not make any effort for presentation nor stick t serving it how it's printed in the menu. They did not offer to make me a new one either even though I informed them "it was to sweet"
In terms of the presentation I would say they are "on point". Beautiful and delicious. No errors or complaints. They made my partners steak perfect. My salad was divine. I am giving three stars. A star loss due to poor service from the waiter and a...
Read moreSuch a cute, not so hidden gem of a restaurant. This was my second time there. First time I caught the sunset and it was incredible. I had gin cocktails and sushi 🤌🏽🤌🏽 Now, the 2nd time was even better, I got to sit a lot longer, I was there on a quiet afternoon and really got to experience the vibe of the place. Firstly I love how there's a different ambiance to choose from in every room. From the airy, more fuller outdoor to the quaint interior, to a more cosy, indoor date night vibe, to the private cellar looking rooms and finally the smoking, balcony outdoor airy that's so cute. They have a very extensive menu to choose from and I mean extensive as in from the different categories of meat/fish/pasta/pizza/veggies etc to the different options within those categories. The food and drinks were top tier. I was still stuck on sushi from the last time but I wanted something more filling g so I got a poke bowl. It was SO good, almost wasn't able to finish it. Had a strawberry daiquiri (which I usually don't get bc places somehow always butcher it) but wow! So refreshing, so well done. My sister, who I was with got a gin cocktail and a burger called "the Mayor". I tasted some of it and almost ordered it to go it was so good. She didn't even finish it. Servings are quite generous. The service was good. The vibes were great and the drinks were very refreshing. A 10/10 for me (if you couldn't already tell from the...
Read moreI have been going to Throbbing Strawberry for more than 10 years 😁❤! It is one of my most frequently visited restaurants in Fourways/Johannesburg, itself. I live on the West Rand and travel often to Douglasdale, just to eat and enjoy the vibe.
From the warm and friendly welcome on arrival, to the knowledgeable staff, the BEST Gin cocktails, to the mouthwatering food, the plating, the ambiance, the service....I can't or should I say, I haven't had a need to complain.
Over time, I have tried just about everything on the menu and the food is absolutely WOOOOOOOOW! I do have my favourites but overall, IMPECCABLE and you will find yourself returning, on a regular basis, just to work your way through the menu because as you watch all the food being served, it makes your mouth water and you want to try it.
Tonight, I had the Scottish Salmon and I can tell you that it would be Gordon Ramsay approved 👌👌👌. I'm quite a foodie so mark my words, it was worth the price. Quality over quantity!
I could write quite a lot about my lunch and dinner visits but you have to try it to believe it and mark my words, you will definitely add Throbbing Strawberry to your list of favourites.
Thankfully, this restaurant didn't close down due to the pandemic and I'm so happy because it would have been a terrible loss to those who appreciate quality over quantity!
Keep up the phenomenal catering and...
