I visited Turn ‘n Tender on Jean Avenue on a Thursday evening, and from start to finish it was a delightful experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the kind of setting that immediately makes you feel relaxed and ready to enjoy a good meal. The staff were friendly and welcoming, attentive without being overbearing, which set the tone for the evening perfectly.
We decided to go with their burgers, and they did not disappoint. The food arrived hot and fresh, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. The patties were juicy and tender, cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. Each bite was mouth-watering, and it was clear that quality ingredients were used. The portions were very generous — so much so that a starter wasn’t even necessary. Everything felt perfectly balanced in terms of serving size and satisfaction.
What really stood out was how consistent the experience felt. From the service to the food presentation and taste, everything came together seamlessly. Turn ‘n Tender is well-known for its steaks, but their burgers are equally deserving of praise. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty meat dish or just a casual yet elevated meal, this spot really delivers.
Overall, Turn ‘n Tender Jean Avenue is a gem for anyone looking for great food, excellent service, and a comfortable dining experience. I will definitely be returning — perhaps next time to try their...
Read moreA beautiful restaurant with lots of potential. Unfortunately only about 20 patrons for the more than 1½ hours we were there on a Saturday night. The menu is expensive to look at with a Soft Drink at R32. Then when it arrives it is a small 200ml that did not even fill the glass full of ice. So i decided not to order another one.
I ordered the Mussels for R209. Served with rice or chips. I took the rice. When it arrived i was sure they are joking. 12 mussels and a small bowl of rice. I refused it as it was like receiving a starter at 3 times the price. The Manager took it away and then i went to ask to take n picture and they said they already deplated it. 10 minutes later the manager brought it back and said i should please eat it as they will take it off the bill.
I ate it and it was not bad except by then it was cold. It was 12 small to medium sized mussels.
Now I understand why this beautiful place is empty. With a 10% tip the bill was R 720 for the 2 meals they charged in comparison wit 3 meals we paid for R700 with a 10% tip and 2 huge doggy bags we had 3 days ago at a restaurant 700 meters down the road. And the burger was ½ bigger and 3 times nicer than tonight.
On the bill they only charged R25 for the small soft drink.
I never before felt so exploited at a restaurant. I attach...
Read moreI have a nostalgic connection to this franchise, and have been frequenting this restaurant group since childhood. I've always considered it to be the best steak house. As I grew up, I also learnt that they stock an excellent selection of wines to compliment their meals. In my humble opinion, Turn 'n Tender serves the best pork ribs bar none. Deserts are also always a treat. From a pricing point, don't expect Spur prices, but then again, the food is also in a completely different class. The waiters are well trained and friendly. You will have to wear a baby bip when eating ribs (just joking, it's optional), but from sitting down all the way to paying the bill, you are truly treated very well, and the food is excellent. I'm excited that a franchise has opened in Menlyn. This makes it quick and easy to go out for a decent meal. Note that this franchise does not have amenities for children. It is meant as a getaway for adults. I do take my kids with, but they know full well the difference between a playground takeaway shop and an appreciable restaurant. Turn 'n Tender had always had a special place in my cuisine list, and that is unlikely to change. Highly recommended if you're a meat...
