Edit following the owner response to my review below: The manager did NOT give advice of any sort. I don't appreciate incorrect information given my fair account of the events. Rock Haven was a personal find upon driving away. Pity on me for not THINKING (that attitude in the owner response was truly unnecessary). Now that you've insulted my intelligence citing my inability to think, let me also offer complimentary (Hospitality 101) ADVICE: Here are 2 "warm" responses to potential customers in the situation you were faced with:
"We're fully booked today, but we'd love to host you. Can we make a booking for tomorrow perhaps?" "We're fully booked today but expecting our last table around 1pm, so we can have you over for drinks before we'd need to clear up for the reservation".
See, being hospitable is not so hard unless you have unconscious biases which may have prevented you from THINKING out of the box.
Given your bitter response to my objective review reflecting an inherent inability to respond appropriately to criticism, I must now add that this establishment is not warm, not welcoming and do not recommend supporting it. Thank you for your (what now appears to be sarcastic) 2025 wishes and have a great one too.
Original review to which the owner responded: Drove from JHB and, after seeing these rave reviews, carted our 20 month for a quick early lunch here. Upon arrival at 11h55am, was told a reservation is compulsory - and even though there appeared to be ample space / seating at the time, was told all the tables are reserved. For obvious reasons when luncheoning with a little one, we usually no longer than 45 minutes at any given establishment, but there was no attempt to ask or make a plan / assist. We've been to fully booked restaurants before and usually there's a 20% walk-in capacity or they upfront indicate that they expecting guests (for example in the next 30 minutes) but can quickly assist up to then. Nevertheless, had a good lunch around the corner...
Read moreWhere to begin.. The owners are involved in everything here. They come tell you about the daily specials, which all sound so amazing that you probably want to try everything! The menu has something for everyone. The combinations of flavours are great. We had the salmon bomb for starters (I hardly ever eat fish and would definitely recommend this), the Moroccan lamb stew with couscous was so soft and tender, and so flavourful. Very aromatic. The mushroom stuffed chicken breast was so juicy, soft and tasty. We were so full that we ended up only sharing a slice of keylime pie. It was so light, and the lime very refreshing, and not too sweet. It is set in a very cozy old house. Nestled under big trees with the smell of the ocean in the air. Service was very good. Always phone ahead and make a reservation. We came here in the down season and it was almost full. I can see why there almost isn't one bad review of this place. I will most definitely be back when on...
Read moreWe were a group of 6 Adults and a 3 year old and we had such a lovely experience. The wait staff and especially Mike was amazing. The service was constantly good but not intrusive. We had 4 starters and 5 main meals between us and everything was amazing. We had a hard time deciding what to order as between the normal menu and the specials we were spoilt for choice... Everything sounded so good. Everyone was happy with their choices - thought was put into the food and plating and all meals were hot, fresh and so tasty. This place is not the normal big over seated restaurant where food just gets dumped on a plate.
The pork belly special, kingklip, wontons, camembert cheese and thai soup were outstanding.
I would highly recommend Flavours and can't...
