Being regulars at Connors Public House Glenashley we booked a table of four to eat and watch the Argentina match with the Springboks 27th September.
We ordered three Gin & Tonic plus a beer to start. While watching the match my wife ordered a glass of wine which was served. Later she complained that she had not finished her Gin & Tonic but someone had taken the glass. Watching the screen I did not see it go. I did not complain. The food arrived and I went to the bathroom. On my return my glass had also gone along with my unfinished drink. I questioned the waitress as to why my unfinished drink had been taken. She said she had not taken it but would report it. A young girl came who said she was the manager and said she had questioned the waitresses and no one had taken the glass. I asked what had happened to my glass then if no one had taken it. She left and returned again to say she had found the waitress who had removed it , without asking, and she thought the drink was finished. Told her it was not finished and suggested she replace it. She refused and said there was only a small amount of liquid left in the glass. Then you confirm the drink was not finished I asked. She said she did not see it but still maintained there was only a small amount left. She suggested it was only melted ice. I asked on what basis she made the decision that the glass contained only melted ice having not seen it. Surely waitresses should not remove anything from the table without first asking, which is normal restaurant procedure in my experience. I asked her to please either replace my drink or cancel it from the bill. She flatly refused to do either and left. Finally she came again and said she had spoken to someone else, presumably her superior, and the decision stood. No apology and her conciliatory attitude was certainly not what you would expect from a manager despite her lacking in years.
Finally the bill arrived, copy attached, and saw we had been charged for 4 Gin & Tonics despite only receiving three, adding insult to injury. Told the waitress who took away the bill and came back with an apology and a corrected version.
We paid the bill and told the waitress, who did an excellent job, that we did not hold her at all responsible for the problem caused but felt her so called manager was considerably lacking in any management skills and for the sake of ZAR 52 had lost the potential business of four loyal customers for the foreseeable future. as we...
Read moreEdit: I am going to add again that this is the 3rd time we have walked out of Connors and the service at Connors is awful, this is not the first time we have complained. In the past we have ordered food which never came and we were told the waitress forgot to put the order through. 2nd time we came in, there quite alot of tables. A waitress brought menus to our table and never returned. We then went to the bar and ordered our drinks at the bar, had our drink and wanted to order another, no service so we paid the tab at the bar and left. I will not complain for no reason and the owners response is not very professional especially when someone has been to your restaurant 3 times and have had 3 poor experiences.
Probably the 3rd time we have walked out as there is no service, no one seats you or comes to take a drink order, we sat for about 15 minutes and then went to ask the barman to assist us, he looked at us and did nothing. Only one table sat inside so definitely not because they were busy....

Yesterday on the way back from the hospital in Umhlanga we stopped at Connors for lunch. It turns out they were celebrating St Patrick's day so there was quite a large boisterous crowd. We ordered chicken schnitzel and beef and guinness pie for R89 plus free guiness draught which was their special. And then we waited for our food. And waited. And some more waiting. New people came in got their food and were eating. And we waited. We were relaxed enjoying the live music. And waiting. Also a man came in and sat behind us and got his beef and Guinness pie which he ate. While we waited. After waiting for a while longer our waiter came and said our food won't be much longer. So we waited. We probably waited a total of 1 and a half hour. So we no longer waited. The apology was that it was the pie which was taking so long. So we said so long and left. I still wonder where the guy behind us...
