🍔 Comics Diner Review: A Trip Down Memory lane
My recent drive through Durban North led to an unexpected stumble upon the familiar Comics sign. This little local burger and pizza joint holds a fond place in my memories from my early years in Durban. Almost 25 years later, this visit was a delightful trip down memory lane.
The Food A massive menu with something for everybody. It was great to see the local food delivery services collecting order after order showing its a local favorite.
My Order (The Banting Burger): Two beef patties with mushrooms and cheese, served on lettuce.
Lex's Order: A mushroom and bacon burger. The chips served alongside his burger were beautifully cooked with a wonderfully crispy outer layer.
My only real critique is that the patties tasted a little too processed. I feel a good local butcher could offer a much better quality patty, which would immediately elevate the burger experience significantly.
Final Thoughts, I absolutely loved the walk down memory lane. Two young ladies that ran the counter and assisted us with our order were charming and service efficient. The iced coffee really hit the spot.
The experience was a lovely reminder of my younger days. I do, however, miss the abundance of well-read comics that was available to read, while you wait for your order, that the original store offered many...
Read moreWorst Experience ever. I am a supporter of Comics at least once a week. Two weeks ago I had family around and ordered 2 Large Chips which should have fed 3 adults each. When I got it they were not the correct size and each one would only feed maybe 2 people. I phoned and spoke to a woman and she told me to send someone to pick up 2 large chips, when my son went there to fetch, they told me they right size was supplied. I took pictures and then the Comics LARGE which is R34 is smaller than the Steers Medium @ R19 which is crazy. It never used to be like that. I was Shocked.
Then Last night I wanted to order Pizzas so I phoned and spoke to the same woman and she took the order and said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I sent my son there to go and fetch them and they knew nothing about the order. They checked everywhere and could not find anything. They even phoned the other Branch. When they came back from Comics without anything I phoned and spoke to the same woman and she gave me an excuse that they are BUSY, but hold on let me check the computer, Oh here is is she said. Do you want me to place the order ... This is unacceptable and I will not go back to comics again. Service...
Read moreRacist atmosphere. Can't even finish your food without getting dead stared by a hectic looking guy who thought he'd come down for a pint to wash down the worst tasting food you ever had in your life. These Glenashley guys must've really grown up with bad cooking if they think the food is good. Had the worst pizza in my life. No flavour at all. Menu is mostly centred on bacon and the rude waitresses don't even make eye contact while serving you or taking your order. You'd probably be treated better if you are Caucasian but if you like to taste some cold concentrated Haterade just take your white girlfriend with you....you gotta be non white for added effect and she has to be hot to piss off the little piggies there ;-) And that ain't no chicken....must have been rat meat for all I know. Only had one slice of the pizza and gave the rest to some hobo on the street....since I'm...
