Extensive Review:
By now, I'm sure that everyone knows that I take no nonsense when it comes to food; whether it's a takeaway or a sitdown restaurant. I take my meals seriously. So what is The verdict on Crazy Korean at the new location (Swapo road)? Unprecedentedly impeccable.
My previous review on the beach house location was as follows:
"Absolutely amazing on every level, great service, homely atmosphere and food that will make you wonder why you haven't already migrated to Korea! Highly recommend it for any die hard fans of asian food, meals are quite filling and great for sharing, and addictive to boot, not forgetting the plum iced tea, just divine!"
However, Crazy Korean has now moved to a new location, Swapo road, and has become a Takeaway restaurant. At first, one would usually expect the quality to decrease. After all, when Takeaway restaurants are established, the focus is on getting the order out, instead of worrying about whether the food ACTUALLY tastes good. People are too busy, or too tired to complain, because by the time they're eating, they've already gotten home.
BUT!
I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered the Family Friday special as a takeaway. With the special, you choose any four individual meals from a set list, and pay the low price of R290. The meals were BEYOND delicious. Not only was the food neatly packed despite the influx of business, it was extremely well cooked and prepared!
Perfectly cooked with delectable sauces, and colourful vegetables (clearly freshly bought), each meal was prepared with such attention to detail, something I always appreciate. What stuns me about this was that this order was a TAKEAWAY! Despite that being so, we were extremely well attended to when we decided to have our meals outside the restaurant instead of taking it home. As with the beach house location, the staff and owner was extremely kind, and helpful.
To those who have not been to the new location, or have been worried about trying out the new Takeaway setup, I can assure you, you will NOT be disappointed. You can expect a scrumptious, freshly prepared, flavour dense meal, with pleasant and safe service (Sanitizer all around!) and ridiculously low prices that will really explain why the restaurant is called Crazy Korean!
I would recommend this establishment to those interested in trying out Asian (more specifically Korean) cuisine, and those looking to try something new, fresh and delectable.
10 out of 10 service. 5 full stars on food. 10 out of 10 for...
Read moreTo be honest the only thing I've ever ordered from Crazy Korean on all my visits is the sticky chicken and rice. It's just that divine!! It's gone up to R99 now but so worth it if you have a few bucks to spare. The chicken is absolutely crunchy and crispy. The rice is kinda stuck together so it makes picking up with the chopstick very easy. I think they give way more chicken than needed so even after you finish your meal, you still have a few pieces of chicken to enjoy on it's own or maybe take it home and eat with rice or pasta. The tables are unique to me as I have not been to expensive restaurants or maybe other cultural restaurants. Every table has a draw with serviettes, forks and chopsticks inside. The tables also have a place where you can cook your own meat. How cool is that. They give you all the ingredients and you do it on your own. Unfortunate the time I went, they weren't doing that. The atmosphere is very quiet, you can sit outside watching cars go pass or sit inside while eating in silence and just watching a customer or two come in. They serve kimchi water and other Korean drinks which I don't really like. But for those of you who want a proper Korean food experience, crazy Korean is the...
Read moreCrazy Korean was my first forey into Korean cuisine. The service was impeccable. A waitress explained how the menu works and recommended items for first timers. We ordered menu one and two. The starters, spicy chicken and seafood pancake were flavourful and the perfect amount to whet the appetite. The second courses were bulgogi jaepchae (beef and noodle) and spicy pork Lettuce wraps, served with 3 Korean side dishes called banchan. The texture of the noodles were very interesting and the bulgogi was flavourful. This dish was cooked table side and was filled was crisp vegetables and a sweet, tangy flavour. The Lettuce wraps were phenomenal and was my dish of the night. The 3rd course was a rice, meat and vegetable dish, served in a piping hot bowl with a raw egg yolk. The egg yolk cooks as it is mixed with the rice. This dish is called bipimbap and I didn't enjoy it very much. It was quite lackluster in flavour compared to the rest of the meal. Overall, it was a good dining experience and I would recommend that people go there to experience a different Asian cuisine. The chef also visits every table and strikes up conversation which is part of Korean culture. It was an enjoyable eating and...
