Bootlegger Blueberry Square — Restaurant in Roodepoort

Visited Bootleggers on a Friday morning/ afternoon with my mother. I hadn’t been, so expected bar vibes, and although they did have a small bar area; their vibe was very relaxing and multifunctional.

It’s one the best coffee shops I’ve visited thus far in terms of it’s energy and service. Also their wifi is great, and doesn’t ask for details and nonsense.

There were quite a few individuals who were doing work on their laptops (such as myself); some grabbing coffees or lunch with loved ones, solo dates; and others there for meetings or after-school lunch with mom.

The important part: the food. The place is slightly on the pricey side but their food is good . I honestly can’t complain too much. Expected my mom’s DIY breakfast borewors to be slightly thicker but she did say it tasted good. The nachos also could’ve been better, but I am a harsh critic when it comes to nachos lol. You’re paying for the food quality, the greenery surrounding you, the vibe and the service.

Speaking of service, our waiter, Romeo was incredibly polite, great personality and gave us the perfect service, from start to finish. I would definitely rate the place an extra star just from his tenacity and balancing his customers well. A huge rave to him and the kitchen’s timing of food.

So this is the second bootleggers branch I’ve been too and this one is by far my favorite. First of all the staff are so friendly and helpful. The service is so quick as I placed a takeaway. When I arrived home I was in complete shock of the portion size I got and it was still piping hot which was incredible. The toastie made my car smell like a rotisserie chicken which I will not complain about.

-This is one of the best chicken mayos i have had as to the unique touches of red onion and gherkins hidden in the sauce. The bread was so soft and scrumptious. I like to add rocket in mine as it gives a nice hint of green bitter peppery style flavour.

-I’ve tried their harrisa chicken Mayo and it’s my second favorite sandwich here. If you like spice in your food, this is definitely for you! All the flavours compliment each other beautifully. The harrisa combined with jalapeño makes a fun, spicy pop of flavour in your mouth!

Absolutely love this bootleggers! Number 1 for toasted sandwiches.

We recently visited Bootlegger Blueberry Square, and it was a bit of a mixed experience.

Ryan ordered the Kentucky-style chicken burger, it looked very promising on the plate, but unfortunately, the taste didn’t live up to the presentation. It was quite bland. I had the chicken schnitzel, which also looked delicious when it arrived, but I was disappointed to find a bone left in my chicken, and the cheese sauce tasted sour, which really took away from the meal.

On a brighter note, the coffee was absolutely fantastic, strong, full-bodied, and probably the highlight of our visit. The service was attentive and genuinely lovely, and the team made us feel well looked after. The atmosphere was rather quiet, which could be nice for some, but it didn’t bring much energy to the dining experience.

The venue itself is beautiful, well-kept, and very clean, clearly a lot of care goes into maintaining the space.
