What was meant to be a special farewell meal with our visiting friends turned into a frustrating and frankly unacceptable ordeal.
We had booked a table for breakfast and were the ONLY guests present, a quiet setting that should have allowed for attentive service and properly prepared food.
The food arrived ICE COLD. Not lukewarm, cold. We sent two dishes back and kindly asked that they not just microwave them.
Less then five minutes later, the food came back still COLD. Mushrooms turned rubbery, scrambled eggs were a complete failure, bland, overcooked, and lifeless, not even mixed properly.
At R175 per plate, this is not just disappointing it’s insulting.
The chef couldn’t even manage the most basic task which was to serve warm food. No finesse, no care, no pride in the kitchen. And to make matters worse, there was no manager on duty, no one to take responsibility, no one to step in and make things right. Just a casual “sorry” from the staff as if that could fix the complete failure of service and quality.
This wasn’t just a bad meal it ruined what should have been a meaningful farewell with our friends. I’m furious that we wasted our time, money, and emotions on such a pathetic excuse for hospitality. Shameful service, appalling food, and a total lack of...
Read moreMy husband and I dined here on Christmas Day for dinner and we were not disappointed. From start to finish it was an amazing night. Our waiter,Thandali( sorry if spelt wrong) was fantastic… so friendly and super efficient. Informed us about every course and made us feel very spoilt. Once we’d eaten the dinner we asked for our compliments to be given to the chef and his staff . Chef Anvor Fortuin then came to our table to meet with us and talk about his incredible food , the ingredients and how it’s put together… absolutely amazing flavours. We decided we would come back on the Friday with family and we ate in the bistro this time ,we arrived to be met by Chef Anvor who had saw we were dining again and wanted to see us and gift us with a special treat . Once we’d ordered our food which was delicious once again ,we had oysters, bitte ballen ,prawn salad, chefs cut of meat and lamb chops ,Chef Anvor presented us with a platter of his own wagyu beef ,specially prepared with amazing sauces …. Absolute melt in your mouth . From the minute we arrived on both occasions we were treated very special and it was a highlight of our holiday . I would most definitely recommend a visit here as you certainly won’t be disappointed. Thank you for looking after us Chef Anvor we...
Read moreHorrible. Do not go there. Despite Covid, we ate amazingly at any othe estate. NOT HERE. Here, fine dining is not possible but the prices remain high. Horrible food that was disgusting and pre-prepared. No bread. No amouse-bouche. A disgusting, old salad without tase or dressing was served with old, cold shrimp that had been sitting in the fridge prior to our arrival and was served immediately after we sat down. Raw corn and hard avocados. It was a disgrace. I recommend Haut Gabrière or Cavalli in Stellenbosch instead. Fabulous food and service depite Covid and Prohibition. There you get your money's worth. Not here. We will spread the word that this estate is not worth a visit. Breakfast is also not served at the Boutique Hotel where it usually takes place. Instead, you must walk to the deli which is about 1 km away and then fight with the waitress about what you want to eat and how much. Despite paying 3600 ZAR per room per night, they wanted me to pick out either only eggs or only granola. Not both. Ridiculous. Don't bother...
