The property was clean, but incredibly dated. The old dog Lola spent an hour outside our cottage on the first evening barking for attention.||However the worst thing that happened was the owner accused us of trying to "make off without payment" and that he was going to call the police, he threatened this twice, despite the fact that our booking platform indicated we'd paid in full. In order to facilitate the investigation we allowed the housekeeper to look at all our emails, credit cards and phoned the booking platform who said we'd paid in full. In view of this we requested further time to investigate further. Upon our return home, we had another accusatory letter where a claim was made that he was perfectly justified in phoning the police! As making off without payment is a criminal offence in South African (I'm aware, as this is the same as our country). I don't think spending 1 hour plus trying to resolve the situation is making off! We left every detail we could do before leaving. A civil matter certainly not criminal.||I really think the owner should reconsider whether he is an appropriate individual to offer hospitality. So far as we're aware at the time the booking had been paid in full, our records on the booking platform certainly indicated this. After trawling through our credit card details, emails and calls to the agent; who informed us we'd paid. We then left our full details and requested time for further investigation. Upon return from our holiday we were in receipt of a letter again accusatory in its nature, and that he was perfectly warranted to call the police, as "making off without payment is a criminal offence " I am aware this is the case, but we didn't "make off" to reiterate we tried to assist in every conceivable way possible. In all my years of booking accommodation I have never been treated like this. Perhaps the owner should reconsider whether he is an appropriate individual to offer a hospitality service. If you are reading this, consider paying a little more and staying somewhere more customer focused and hopefully you won't be threatened...
