알천반상 — Restaurant in Gyeongju-si

25년 4월 6일 일요일, 꽃구경을 위해 잠시 교촌마을에 들렸습니다. 와이프가 맛있어 보인다는 몇몇 곳을 찾아보았고 여기가 제일 맛있을거라 판단했나 봅니다. 한식 메뉴라 그런 듯 한옥 인테리어 기반의 식당이었고 포항에는 이런 곳이 없었긴 하여.. 사실 조금은 답답한 느낌이 들었습니다. 식당 안에서 밖으로 문이 열리지 않는 구조라 그런 듯 합니다. 예약을 미리 하지 않았고 자리에 앉은 후 2만원 짜리 메뉴로 주문했습니다. 여자아이 한 명 것도 주문해야 하냐고 물어봤는데 공기밥만 주문하시면 반찬이 많이 나오기 때문에 충분히 먹을 수 있다하여 2인분만 주문했습니다. 여사장님이 설명을 친절히 해주셨습니다. 약 20분 후 한반에 다 나왔습니다. 된장찌개부터 맛 보았는데 ‘이거 뭐지?’하며 매우 맛있게 먹었습니다. 된장찌개가 무척 진하고 맛있었기 때문입니다. 오른쪽에 있는 회무침도 먹어보았습니다. 역시나 맛있었습니다. 적당히 맵싸한 가운데 아삭아삭, 회를 씹는 느낌도 들었고 공깃밥도 한 숟가락 먹으니 그야말로 너무 맛있었습니다. 미역국도 맛보았습니다. 매우 고소했습니다. 참기름 향과 맛이 너무 좋았습니다. 미역 또한 입으로 씹을 때 푹 삶았다는게 느껴질 정도 였습니다. 보통이 아니었어요. 공깃밥 위에 있는 연근도 먹어보았습니다. 특히 깊은 인상을 준 건 연근에 뿌려놓은 소스입니다. 적당히 달달하여 연근과 무척 잘 어울린다는 생각을 받았습니다. 오른쪽에 있는 콩나물 무침과 말린 양념고추도 밥도둑입니다. 김치도 코리안이라명 누구나 좋아할 김치 바로 그 맛이었습니다. 메인이라 할 수 있는 소불고기도 왼쪽에 놓여져 있는데 물론 맛있었지만 솔직히 말해 앞에 말했던 음식들이 너무 맛있었어서 기억에 남는 건 없네요. 그러나 파전은 또 기억에 남습니다. 생각컨대 파전은 그냥 파전이겠지 싶었거든요. 그러나 한입 넣어보고 깨달았습니다. ’아니 씨발 파전도 존나 맛있네.‘ 입에 넣어 씹을 때 과자느낌은 아닌데 바삭하게 씹혀지는 느낌과 고소함이 느껴졌습니다. 요리 하나하나에 신경을 쓴 것이 느껴졌습니다.

1인 당 2만원의 한식 메뉴, 전혀 비싸다는 생각이 안들었습니다. 저는 경주에 올 때마다 매번 와야겠다는 생각이 들었습니다. 저는 다음에 올 때는 3만원 짜리 메뉴를 먹어볼 생각입니다.

이 음식점에 오셔서 제가 느낀 기분을 그대로 느껴보시기 바랍니다.

조심스레 피드백 하나만 해보자면 종이컵 대신 도자기 컵으로 음료를 주시면 더 좋은 경험과 식당에 어울릴 듯 합니다.

주의사항은 1시 50분 쯤 되니 재료가 떨어져 돌아가시는 손님도 있었으니 오픈시각 11시 50분에서 1시 사이 방문하시는게 좋아보입니다.

On Sunday, April 6th, 2025, we made a quick stop at Gyochon Village in Gyeongju to enjoy the spring flowers. While browsing for a place to eat, my wife picked out a restaurant that seemed the most promising—and wow, she was right.

The restaurant served traditional Korean food and was styled like a hanok (Korean traditional house). It was a bit different from the places we’re used to back in Pohang—more closed-off and with no direct view outside, which made it feel slightly confined. Still, the atmosphere was warm and peaceful.

We didn’t have a reservation, but were seated quickly. We ordered the 20,000 KRW per person set menu, and when I asked if we needed to order something for our daughter, the owner kindly explained that just an extra bowl of rice would be enough, thanks to the generous side dishes. She was very welcoming and explained everything clearly.

About 20 minutes later, the full spread arrived—and everything came out at once. I started with the doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), and honestly, I was blown away. It was rich, deep in flavor, and hands down one of the best I’ve had.

Next, I tried the hoemuchim (spicy raw fish salad). It had a perfect balance—just the right amount of spice, crunch, and freshness. With a spoonful of rice, it was incredibly satisfying. The seaweed soup was also outstanding, with a savory sesame oil flavor and perfectly soft seaweed. You could really tell everything had been cooked with care.

One side dish that stood out was the lotus root with a sweet glaze. It was subtle but paired perfectly with the texture. The bean sprout salad and dried marinated chili peppers were classic “rice stealers”—those dishes that make you keep going back for more rice. The kimchi? Pure Korean-style perfection. Exactly what you’d want it to taste like.

The main dish, bulgogi (grilled marinated beef), was good, though to be honest, the other dishes had left such a strong impression that it didn’t stand out as much. But then came the pajeon (green onion pancake)—and that changed everything. I expected it to be ordinary. I took a bite and thought, “No way… even the pancake is insanely good.” It was crispy in all the right ways, savory, and clearly made with care—like every other dish on the table.

At 20,000 KRW per person, the set felt like a bargain. I left thinking, “I need to come back here every time I visit Gyeongju.” Next time, I’m definitely trying the 30,000 KRW course.
