I recently dined at this wonderful local Korean restaurant - Olyugdon in Gyeongju, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. The restaurant's decor and ambiance made me feel like I was sitting down to a meal in a traditional Korean home.
What truly sets this place apart is the high quality of their dishes. Each bite was a delicious journey through Korean flavors. Don-Gomtang which was their only main menu of pork soup (comes with rice) has a generous amount of meat in a bowl and has no pork smell at all. The accompaniments were fresh and varied, providing a delightful introduction to the meal. I couldn't get enough of their (in-house) chef special spicy paste, which was expertly prepared with flavorful ingredients that were perfectly balanced. The radish kimchi, made in-house, had just the right amount of spice and fermentation, and it complemented every dish perfectly.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, adding to the overall sense of comfort and authenticity. The lovely lady even shared their Gimbap and Muscat with us. I felt like I was dining with family, and that's a rare and beautiful feeling to have in a restaurant. They exceeded our expectations with the overall experience.
If you're looking for a genuine Korean dining experience with high-quality dishes and a homely feeling, I highly recommend this restaurant. It's a gem in Gyeongju that captures the heart and soul of Korean cuisine. I can't wait to return for another...
Read moreWe ate here last night. Don't let this small and unassuming place deceive you. After spending a week in Korea in places like Seoul, Nami, DaeJeon and now in GyeongJu, this could be the best meal we had. The clear broth was superb, not salty or porky, their secret recipe. Pork and Chicken slices in the soup were generous. We ordered the side dishes, meat ball and pork belly. Again, it was delicious.
The lady serving us could speak good English, and patiently explained to us what we were ordering and even how to eat the meal. Though only a few choices in the menu,
Be prepared to wait, as only 2 tables for 4pax, and 8 counter seats. They have another room to wait, with drinks to serve.
Overall, a great experience....
Read moreKorean pork broth! This tiny restaurant only has 3 items on the menu. The main event is dom gomtang (clear pork broth with meat and rice), and the 2 side dishes are don jijim (pan-fried pork meatball) and suyuk ( braised pork belly slices). The broth and meat is delicately flavoured and relies soley on the ban chan for seasoning. It was perfect for a cold day. There is limited seating - but there is a heated waiting room next door. We arrived at lunch time on a Saturday and waited 20 minutes for a seat at the counter. The staff are really helpful - they speak English and are happy to show you how...
