제주 서귀포에 위치한 형제도식당 본점은 제주 여행에서 꼭 한 번 들러야 할 갈치 요리 전문점이에요. 식당은 일주서로에 자리하고 있어 접근성이 좋고, 외관은 모던하면서도 단정한 느낌을 주며 내부는 전면 통유리창 덕분에 햇살이 가득 들어와 환하고 개방감이 넘쳤습니다. 노란빛 원목 테이블과 의자가 가지런히 배치되어 따뜻하면서도 깔끔한 분위기를 자아냈고, 좌석 간격이 넉넉해 단체 손님도 편안히 이용할 수 있었습니다. 무엇보다 식사 후에는 셀프 코너에서 시원한 물과 따뜻한 커피를 즐길 수 있어 마무리까지 만족스러웠어요.

상차림은 보는 순간부터 감탄이 나왔습니다. 은빛 비늘이 살아 있는 갈치회는 부드럽고 고소한 풍미가 일품이었고, 쫄깃한 전복과 조개는 조림과 어우러져 바다의 신선한 맛을 더해주었어요. 두툼하고 바삭한 김치전은 매콤 고소해 입맛을 돋우었고, 갈치튀김은 겉은 바삭하면서 속살은 촉촉해 별미 중 별미였답니다. 여기에 게장, 멸치볶음, 단호박, 샐러드 등 밑반찬까지 하나하나 정갈하게 준비되어 있어 상차림이 더욱 풍성했어요.

메인으로 나온 통갈치구이는 접시 위를 가득 채울 만큼 길고 압도적인 비주얼을 자랑했습니다. 겉은 노릇노릇하게 구워져 고소한 향이 퍼졌고, 속살은 촉촉하면서 담백해 밥 한 숟가락과 함께 먹으니 금세 그릇이 비워졌습니다. 이어 등장한 통갈치조림은 커다란 사각 냄비에 보글보글 끓여져 나오는데, 국물 속에는 갈치뿐 아니라 문어, 전복, 조개가 듬뿍 들어가 바다의 풍미가 한껏 담겨 있었어요. 칼칼하면서도 시원한 국물은 따끈한 돌솥밥과 완벽하게 어울렸고, 그 한 숟가락 속에 제주 바다가 그대로 녹아든 듯했습니다.
