커피빈 혜화역점 — Restaurant in Seoul

I visited this place on a weekend evening with four companions. 주말 저녁에 일행들과 방문하고 유색인종 인종차별 받았습니다.

Each of us ordered one drink, and we also ordered a dessert. 일행 4분과 방문해서 1인1음료 주문하였고 디저트류도 하나 주문했습니다.

During our visit, one of our friends—who is a foreigner—mistakenly thought a tray at the pickup counter was ours, as the drinks looked the same as what we had ordered. The moment they reached for it, a staff member reacted very aggressively. 함께 계시던 지인분 중 외국인분이 다른고객분 트레이를 저희 테이블 트레이로 혼동하여 픽업대에서 트레이를 가져가려 손을 대시자마자 직원분이 화를 내셨습니다.

They repeatedly asked, “What’s your number?! What number are you?!” in a very irritated and hostile tone. 대놓고 몇번이세요?? 몇번이신데요;;라는 말을 반복하며 신경질을 내셨고 불쾌하다는 느낌을 내비추셨습니다.

Judging by their age and demeanor, the person seemed to be either a manager or a senior staff member. 나이도 젊지는 않으신 것을 보니 점원이시거나 점장이신 것 같은데 이런식으로 손님을 대하는게 맞으신가요?

I was shocked by how unprofessional and disrespectful their attitude was. 오히려 카운터에 있던 알바생분이 친절하게 가르쳐주시려고 하는걸 뒤에서 청소하던 분이 갑자기 오셔서 화를 내시니 너무 당황스럽네요.

What’s worse, a younger staff member at the counter was actually trying to kindly explain the situation, but the person cleaning nearby suddenly rushed over and started scolding us harshly. 저희가 주문한 메뉴와 뒤에분 음료메뉴가 같아서 지인분이 혼동하신건데 그저 외모만 보시고 한국어 못할 것 같으니까 화내시더군요.

It was obvious that the staff member assumed the foreigner didn’t speak Korean and wouldn’t be able to file a complaint. 외국인은 한국말 못하니까 민원도 못넣을 것 같고 그러니 그런식으로 응대해도 된다고 생각하셨나요?

They directed all their anger only at our foreign friend, completely ignoring the Korean friend standing right next to them. How should we interpret that kind of behavior? 옆에 함께 계셨던 한국인 지인분과는 눈도 안마주치시면서 외국인 지인분께만 신경질을 내시는건 어떻게 받아들이면 될까요??

Did we steal a drink? 저희가 음료를 훔쳤습니까?

Did we take someone else’s order and drink it? 아니면 타 고객분 음료를 맘대로 마셨습니까?

No—we made a simple mistake based on a misunderstanding. And yet, the way we were treated was deeply offensive and discriminatory. 착각때문에 실수를 한 것이었는데 계속 다그치시고 화내시는 모습이 인상 깊었습니다.

We have no intention of returning. 다시는 재방문 의사 없구요.

Foreign visitors, please be cautious when visiting this place. 외국인...

스타벅스 점포가 근처에 넘 많았는지 철수하고 커피빈이 새로 들어옴. 4호선 혜화역 4번출구 바로 옆이라 접근성 좋음. 1층은 그냥 들어가서 2층으로 올라가는 계단만 있음. 2층에서 주문 및 커피를 마실 수 있고, 3층도 커피빈 매장임. 화장실은 3층에 있음. 1~3층간 이동은 중앙 계단을 이용하면 됨. 무인 키오스크가 설치되어 있어, 여기서 주문해도 되고, 카운터에서 직원에게 주문해도 됨. 공간도 충분하고 분위기도 너무 시끄럽지않고...
