This place is discriminatory against foreigners.
I came here with a friend who is a Korean native. After the waiter led us to our table and I was putting my stuff down, the moment I spoke English to my friend, the waiter told us we had to move to another table. She led us to a table in the back corner, even more hidden than the table where employees were taking their lunch break.
I didn't know what was going on, but my friend asked the waiter why we were moved. The waiter told her it was because I was a foreigner, and they had to be cautious amidst the ongoing coronavrius paranoia. My friend told the waiter that I was from the States but that didn't matter.
I didn't know what was happening in the moment, otherwise I would've left this store immediately. I am of Taiwanese descent, so I probably look Chinese to them, and therefore seen as a potential risk. I can understand that the restaurant would want to minimize risk of contamination, but the fact that they didn't ask our place of origin and immediately and assumed things was incredibly discriminatory and uncalled for.
We ended up staying at the restaurant, ordering the glabitang with US beef and the spicy soup. Giving credit where it's deserved, I think the food was really delicious. But, I would never recommend this place or come back again because of their unacceptable...
Read moreI’ve always wanted to experience premium Korean cuisine, and Budnamujip exceeded my expectations. The restaurant has a truly luxurious atmosphere, and our meal for two came to over 8,000 NTD. One of the main highlights was the Korean beef (Hanwoo), which I had been eager to try for a long time. It's definitely the pricier part of the meal. To be honest, the taste didn’t differ much from other high-quality beef, but it was less greasy compared to Wagyu, which I appreciated. Given the high cost, we approached it with a sense of reverence.
We also ordered my favorite dish—soy-marinated crab. It was incredibly sweet and flavorful, a real treat. The restaurant’s banchan (Korean side dishes) are another standout feature. They serve a generous variety of these small dishes, each one more delicious than the last, leaving us with plenty to savor throughout the meal.
Budnamujip has been awarded the Michelin Guide recommendation for four consecutive years since 2018, and it’s easy to see why. The combination of high-quality ingredients, excellent service, and a refined atmosphere makes it a special place for anyone wanting to indulge in the best of...
Read moreWe were disappointed that the menu was limited to only a few dinnertime dishes. The beef rib soup was not available for dinner and in order to order the cold noodles that we wanted, we had to order at least 1 portion of overpriced barbecue beef each. The beef was acceptable at best and was too chewy for me. The cold buckwheat noodle was the real disappointment. It’s basically tasteless and I cud make better instant ones at home. I’m shocked how a Michelin restaurant couldn’t even make a simple dish like cold buckwheat noodles right. Service was okay but i won’t...
