As someone who has lived in Mexico and traveled extensively throughout the country, I can confidently say that Escondido Seoul is not just good — it’s authentic, soulful, and deeply evocative. This isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a portal to Mexico. From the moment the first dish arrived, I was transported. The flavors immediately brought me back to some of the most vivid food memories of my time in Mexico: the depth and complexity of the mole reminded me of a quiet afternoon in Oaxaca, where I sat in a small family-owned cocina savoring their treasured seven-chili sauce. The bright, citrus-forward aguachile had me reliving sunsets in Puerto Escondido and Puerto Vallarta, where fresh seafood is caught that same morning and transformed into something electric and unforgettable. And the tacos — oh, the tacos — were bursting with flavor and balance, a true homage to the streets of Guadalajara, where every taco stand is a culinary event. The ingredients are fresh, the execution is thoughtful, and the presentation is elegant but not pretentious. It’s clear that the chefs here understand the soul of Mexican cuisine, not just its surface-level flavors. On top of that, the drinks were phenomenal. We had five each — and every cocktail was crafted with precision and personality. Each one complemented the meal rather than overpowering it. The bar program alone is worth coming back for.
Yes, we spent quite a lot for two people, but it felt absolutely worth it. This wasn’t just a meal — it was a cultural experience wrapped in fine dining, the kind of night that sticks with you long after you leave.
Highly, highly recommended.
Whether you’re new to Mexican cuisine or you’ve lived it firsthand, Escondido Seoul delivers something rare: real depth, real warmth, and real flavor.
10/10.
Read moreA fantastic set menu restaurant with bar seating facing the bar and kitchen so you can watch food and drinks being made just like a chef table in big restaurants. The only restaurant that has cocktails pairing on our trip, I guess it's possible to do with Mexican food that pairs well with spirits. There was a problem with the Catch table app when we booked the table and the comments about one person in our group being vegetarian didn't get through to the restaurant. However the staff and the chefs tried really hard and managed something for us on the spot! More than 5 stars for efforts! Beautiful food and delicious food and I really love the spirits dessert with its cocktail...
Read moreAte here as a late birthday treat to myself (did not tell the staff, I don't like fuss). Everything was delicious and tasted fresh and authentic. I especially loved how the chef explained the different kinds of corn used for the tortillas and masa. Be careful if you go on foot in winter, it is at the bottom of a steep road...
