Went for my birthday and loved it! The service was great - the staff would literally be refilling my cup of tea as soon as it starts getting empty. Was a bit weird sitting in the middle of the dining area, but we kinda got used to it after a while. They have 1 bathroom, and if someones already in there, they will let you know when its available (I was joking with my boyfriend that the whole restaurant will know if you need to bathroom lol). After each customer uses the toilet, I think they give it a quick tidy up too which was nice.
Food wise- I dont eat raw seafood, so they changed the menu slightly for me. All the dishes were nice. Somewhat similar to the usual asian cuisine I have but also different as they have a slight twist to them which makes them unique. I preferred some more over others, but this was personal preference. As it was my birthday, they also gave me a small plate of birthdah dessert, which was very nice of them 😊. My favourite dessert was their mandarin (or some other variety of citrus fruit) sorbet - extremely refreshing and both sweet and a hint of tangyness. Alot of their starters were supposed to be a single bite size but they were definitely a bit too big for me to put in my mouth in 1 go whilst still being lady like lol.
Overall experience was great and I felt very...
Read moreI’m beyond happy to have dined at Soseoul. I joined them for lunch. At the time of my visit, lunch costed 140.000 KRW and dinner costed 220.000 KRW. I believe my lunch wine pairing was around 100.000 KRW extra and I opted for their 25.000 KRW hanwoo substitute - a terrific decision. Soseoul is a modern Korean Michelin star that offers delicious flavor combinations with homage to locally sourced and traditional ingredients. Their lunch menu consisted of eight unique dishes. They offered an additional, off-the-menu dessert that was equally exciting. My favorite, by far, was the main dish - hanwoo. It was an excellent course packed with flavor and nuance. However, I wish the abalone would be more of a star. It was blended into a rice side dish; this ingredient deserves its own spotlight. The wine pairing was fabulous. Their sommelier made excellent choices that pushed my own comfort. He selected both traditional French wines and Korean classics. I was a big fan of their 1990 Riesling, and believe the overall pairing was exceptionally well priced for what you got. My only complaint is that the service was a bit impersonal. They were all extremely professional, but to a robotic degree. However, in total, the restaurant is an incredible choice for those looking to enjoy a traditional and...
Read moreI was in Seoul for one night for a layover, and wanted to go all out with the one dinner I had. Seseoul did not disappoint. From the time of booking the staff was accommodating for my food preferences and were very communicative by email. The restaurant itself is small and minimally decorated, you will find it warm and cozy in contrast with the busy streets of Seoul. The food came in a number of courses (maybe 10-12), some were decently sized like a sirloin course and a small course of handmade noodles, and some were meant to be taken in a single bite. I have to say that despite the chef’s use of creative ingredients (strawberries on oysters comes to mind, and refreshing apple juice in the abalone dish), the dishes were not completely from out of space. The ingredients still felt simple, though diverse and creating complex flavors. That’s not a bad thing at all - the food was balanced and well thought out, the chef was not trying to blow your mind with combinations you would never think of, but my mind was blown on occasion nonetheless. More importantly, the execution was perfect - temperatures, textures, combinations. When many high end restaurants are trying to do what hasn’t been done before, Soseoul Hannam does things right, and I would take that on a...
