Bar/Café El Populacho — Restaurant in Agüimes

We were here "early" (arrived just before noon) to have a lunch ahead of a hike. As we sat down, the other tables quickly filled up too. And for a reason! My, the food here is tasty! We had the Secreto Iberico, the homemade croquettes and the prawns with vegetables, and it was all just bursting with flavour. All very well-prepared. Even though we were quite full after, we had the waiter tempt us to try the cheesecake as dessert (he didn't have to try very hard :P) and that was just incredible too. Definitely give this one a try if you're in the neighbourhood! Around the corner on the square is a cute gift shop too, that sells beautiful locally...

I was recommended this place, so stopped off for lunch.

Staff were OK - not especially welcoming, but not unfriendly either.

I had the Ropa Vieja - chickpeas mixed with shredded chicken and beef. It arrived luke warm, so asked to have it heated up. Not a big deal, but should have arrived piping hot in the first place.

Food was good when it finally returned.

Had to ask separately for bread - a bit odd considering that most Spanish wouldn't have a meal without it!

The bread wasn't cheap either. 🧐

Overall, everything was about average for a touristy bar-restaurant. Fine as a once-off, but I wouldn't make a special...

No recomendamos. Muy mal servicio. Mala educación. Y comida que nunca llegó y que nos intentaron cobrar.

Somos clientas habituales hemos ido a comer dos amigas. Hemos pedido a las 3 de la tarde pan con alioli 2 potajes y 2 platos de croquetas. Nunca llegaron. Sólo llegó el pan. A las 4 de la tarde cuando preguntamos por la comida nos dijeron que faltaba poco. No había mucha gente. Seguimos esperando hasta casi las 5 y volvemos a preguntar y nos dicen que no quedaba ni potaje ni croquetas después de 2 horas de espera. En su lugar nos traen 2 platos con una única albóndiga cada uno con pocas patatas quemadas que posteriormente nos cobran.

Pedimos el ticket y nos intentan cobrar todos los platos que nunca llegaron! Al reclamar al camarero nos dice a gritos delante de los clientes que nos callemos que él estaba muy cansado ya.

Somos clientes habituales locales y han cambiado tanto el servicio a mal como la comida a peor y no volveremos más.

We are regular local customers. Female Friends food. We have ordered at 3 in the afternoon bread, two plates of stews and two plates of croquettes. They never arrived. Only the bread arrived. At 4 we asked about our food and they told us that It was not long. At 5 they tell us that what we ordered was not left and we had been waiting for 2 hours. Instead they bring us a unique meatball with four burnt potatoes that they charge us.

When asking for the Bill they try to charge us for the 4 dishes that never arrived! When complaining to a waiter he shouts at us in front of people to shut up because he ido very tired.
