Great Tapas and Service in September Sagasta 11 Taperia is one of the first restaurants at the head of Calle de San Francisco, the main tapas street in Alicante. I planned to have a snack, then try the next few “taperias” along the street. But Sagasta 11 was so delicious that I never left! After dinner I walked the length of Calle de San Francisco and never saw a better place. I had the Gamba al Ajillo (Fried shrimp with garlic) , Bola de Queso Brie (Balls of Brie with salad), and Pimientos de Padron (The boss’s roast peppers) - see Tapas menu photo and photos of the food. Both were great, especially the sauce which I soaked up with the endless crispy bread they brought. I asked my server what wine or Vermouth goes best with my order, and he brought me a white vermouth with sliced lime, fantastic! In Spain, always ask what wine or drink goes best with your dish. The highlight came at the end when I noticed the owner slicing up the famous aged Jamón Ibérico (ham) in the back of the kitchen (photo). When he saw me watching, he immediately gave me samples, so...
Read moreThe worst food experience I've had in Alicante. We are greeted by a waiter who doesn't look professional at all, jokes around and looks like he is making fun of you. We order a plate of fried fish for 2 (22€) which was the worst fish I have ever had. It was of course all frozen, with the prawns having zero taste, the squids being super chewy and the worst thing of all: they fried fish fingers, the ones from the supermarket! I asked the waiter a couple of times whether the food was fresh, he said yes, and when I said it couldn't be he said "It's your own problem if you don't want to believe it". We left basically the whole plate, and when I told this at the counter I would have expected something in return, like an espresso to excuse themselves of the terrible food, but nothing. They just turned their back on me. Also, the chair I was sitting on was broken, the toilet was not closing, there was no soap nor toilet paper. If you are reading this, please make yourself a favour and just...
Read moreWe have decided to have dinner here because the waiter Domingo was friendly and welcoming making jokes. To be honest he looks like a bit drunk. Unfortunately this was the worst food we have during our holiday. The gazpacho and salmorejo were tasteless like water. The chicken was smelling very bad and I have decided not to eat it. How you can serve food which smells so bad can make food poisoning?! The boquerones was tasteless and plate was just very small served with chips?! We have paid 8 euros for pimento de padrón which was 4 pimento served on top of chips?! We have told the waiter, he pretended he didn’t understand us. We have decided to pay the bill and left everything. The waiter didn’t even ask why we left our food. It’s not about money- it’s about making people fool - just take their money and serve rubbish. This is not the way how you do business. We have visited Spain many times and we know how the proper food taste and look like. I do not...
