Update (in response to the restaurant’s answer):
Not sure about the 5 years, I visited the restaurant a total of 1 times and got the hair in my food, which definitely did not come from neither me or the second guest. Most of the staff in the kitchen on the other side of the street were without any protection, operating in a small kitchen. Pizza wise - I’ve tried Napolitano pizza before, and this one was the soggiest one so far, quite different from what you get in proper restaurants in Italy.
Initial review:
The ambience is quite average, loud with little music to help the ‘loudness’. Our waiter was welcoming and helpful, although I can’t say the same about the one standing outside and meeting guests who arrive to the restaurant.
The we food was somewhat OK, salad was normal and the pizza was slightly watery, all the cheese would fall down easily when being consumed. The salad was polluted with a hair, the only thing done to compensate was to remove it from the bill - nothing else was offered/done to improve the experience of eating at the restaurant (normally high-end restaurants would clear the entire bill, offer desert, offer a drink, call the manager to apologize, etc.).
The waiter refused to allow me to speak to the manager and has not given their name either.
Sadly - there are other places I have enjoyed significantly more in this area in Alicante, I suggest spending your time and money...
Read moreThe food was presented well. The tagliatelle was rather too al dente for my personal preference but all good stuff. I suspect authentic. I wished I'd had the pizza as they all looked magnificent passing me and reviews seem to affirm that.
Tiramisu was pleasant and well made, if a little small for the money.
It is Spain, so no reason the waiters should have good English and indeed their English was limited. However, I found the waiters most attentive and efficient without being pushy... and the usual Spanish good looks, especially the young wavey haired waiter ( with very long fingers!) who had a cheerful , welcoming endearing charm. As did the slightly shy but delightful smile of his older companion front of house waiter. I guess they're outside for a reason!
Inside and outside had a pleasant atmosphere.
I think I would return here another time but would have the pizza!
I went back and did indeed have pizza. The crust was quite pleasant and overall was fine. However, I think tomato base had been added a little too late as was a bit cool and though better than dry, this was a rather wet pizza. However, overall it wasn't too bad.
Alas the two handsome waiters mentioned above were largely confined to duties behind the bar and some mopping. Pity as they are a great asset to this firm in...
Read moreOn our first evening in Alicante, we went to Da Ciro for a quick meal after checking into our hotel. Unfortunately, the experience started off poorly. Although there was a British flag at the entrance (suggesting they spoke English), the staff didn’t help us much when we were choosing food. When we asked questions, they didn’t seem to understand and even acted annoyed, as if it was our fault. I politely told them their attitude was upsetting. After that, they were more polite, and the rest of the evening went fine. They even offered a free drink as a nice gesture.
The food, however, was excellent. Every dish we tried was delicious, and the wine they suggested went perfectly with the meal. The prices were reasonable—not too expensive, not too cheap.
This restaurant has great food and a nice atmosphere, but the service could be better. If the staff were friendlier and more patient, it would make the experience much better. If they don’t want to serve tourists, it might help to make that clear at the entrance.
Overall, Da Ciro is worth visiting for its food, but the service needs improvement. Be prepared for mixed interactions...
