Francisco's is one of the best restaurants I have been to in my life and make sure to visit every time I am in the south of Spain.
The atmosphere is charming, with a perfectly-sized outdoor terrace set within the streets of Almunecar. Since it is tucked away, there is never any annoying wind that you find on some of the beachfront restaurants.
Francisco and the other waiters are extremely professional, yet warm and welcoming. They speak Spanish, English and can great you in just about any language! The menu comes in Spanish, English, German, Dutch and the Scandinavian languages, making it easy to order no matter where you are visiting from.
On to the food. Each meal begins with some fresh bread and an amazing alioli-style spread that is divine. My mother and aunt have been trying to replicate it for years, but just can't get it to be as good as Francisco's.
There is a large selection of soups, salads and starters, all of which are great. They are the perfect size to share with 2-4 people, depending on how hungry you are.
For the mains, there are some local specialties that you have to try. The Andalucian-style kid (goat), venison and boar are all excellently prepared in a stew-ish sauce. The seafood is fresh and grilled to perfection. If you are two meat lovers looking for something, the chateaubriand is a real treat.
The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food that you get. A typical meal with a beer or some wine will run between 18-28 euros depending on what you order.
All in all, if you are visiting Almunecar, Francisco II's is a place that you have to visit for...

The inside is truly worth going into for photos. We chose from the prix fixe menu and were very happy with everything we ordered. The servers were attentive and business-like, and we would highly recommend Meson Francisco II if you are in Almunecar (and don’t miss a visit to the Castle...
Read moreWe spotted this place this afternoon and browsed the menu. Seemed a little expensive but looked appealing. Quaint setting candles on tables. We decided to return for dinner. Certainly for us, an excellent choice. We shared a Melon and Serrano Ham starter. My wife had Beef Stiffado and myself Fillet Steak Rossini. We're not big eaters so weren't expecting to have a dessert. But on seeing the list had to share a Crepes Suzette. Well worth every penny. Wine included and a bottle of water. €65.00. We will...
