Dropped in at 20:30 on a Saturday. The place was conspicuously quiet (being the only patrons), but in these parts this is an early dinner. The jovial host showed our party of 8 to a table. He spoke no English (and us no Spanish) but with good humour we muddled through. The menu seemed a little limited, especially for the kids, but needn't have been concerned - what landed on our table was the tastiest dishes we'd eaten and at a very reasonable price. To kick off, an unexpected beef pâté and tomato confit with melba toast arrived - everyone was fighting for more of it. Then this little tavern dished up the most delicious pork steaks - as juicy and tender as any beef steak, succulent and rich venison stew, a formidable leg of lamb, a refreshing cod fish in tomato sauce and creamy chicken breast stuffed with mango. Went here tonight with my partner, as we both were lead to believe that this was a tapas place. Once there, we sat at a table, but were then asked if we had reserved a table upon which we said we hadn't & they proceed to then inform us that the table we were sat at was reserved (no signage to mention this) fault on their part. We then moved to another table & my partner he asked if there were any tapas (as nothing mentioned on the menu), waitress advised that tapas were only given if you were drinking at the bar....this is no good as nothing mentioned on website that this is the case. A great place, a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, and attentive staff who are happy to advise you on your dish. Delicious cuisine with distinct flavors – I've eaten at several restaurants in Almuencar, and this one is one of the tastiest, in my opinion. The restaurant is very popular with guests.
