Grand Café Rouge — Restaurant in Altea

AWFUL! Avoid this place!! Horrible frozen food, terribly slow service and unclean kitchens. Most the food was inedible (a first for us at a restaurant!) and nothing arrived at the same time. The kitchen looked dirty and the “chefs” clearly can’t cook. The grumpy old woman who runs the place is moody, rude and incompetent. She was also the only waitress so far on our holiday not wearing a mask, so clearly she doesn’t care about COVID and the safety of her customers and staff. We would NEVER EAT HERE EVER AGAIN and would warn other people to stay away!

To follow up on the owners response… Clearly her rudeness and poor customer service extends to her online responses. Firstly, we did complain (so a lie from her!) and she was very aggressive and still charged us full price (including for some food we didn’t even get!!) This woman is so rude that I imagine some people are too scared to complain at the time - another family in there at the time actually said this to us.

Read the other negative reviews on here and on Tripadvisor and you’ll see that many people have had the exact same experience as us - terrible frozen food, very slow service and an unclean, unprofessional kitchen (any positive reviews must be written by friends!) I would really warn people against going here. If you want to enjoy your meal and have a nice experience go to one of the other lovely restaurants nearby. This place ruined our day and we will be warning our local friends and family...

Worst restaurant I have ever eaten in. Slow service (over an hour for starters to arrive in a quiet restaurant). Menu del dia portions tiny and badly heated up from a packet. Mains arrived one at a time with 15 minute gap. The chiller con carne was without meat or beans! The scampi was a few pieces with some frozen chips. Owner rude despite paying bill in full. They don’t care and rely on passing trade. Other guests felt same and left early. Only consolation was warning other passers by. The lesson? Read reviews on google - some honest folks have shared experience I assume all 5 star reviews are fictitious. For the drunken owner to reply as she has, says it all All of meals didn’t even arrive! She took full payment. Other guests complained and left. I notice there was no defence of the actual awful food, service and hygiene .. just more insults once we kindly paid. Will make sure we continue to inform potential customers ever day we walk past An apology would have been the correct reply .. clearly waiting patiently for the first course for an hour is bad...

We popped in a few weeks back for a quick drink and were served by Bimba. Bimba was working hard and had to deal with some difficult customers who wanted their food prioritising before other customers drink orders. They demanded free drinks which they were given but remained ungrateful and rude despite Bimba both cooking and serving. Bimba was very professional and seemed a bit upset that the customers had failed to recognise that the Cafe has signs up for recruitment and that he was trying his best in the midst of a rush.
