This is the worst restaurant I have ever been in and I have lived in Tenerife for 13 years!. I had waiting a long 2 years to be reunited with my family, so the night 8 of us went to El Bichero, was a very special occasion. My niece ( who speaks fluent Spanish) booked the tables ( specific numbered tables) so we were guaranteed to be seated together. We arrived at 19:30 to find they had given our tables to other people! The only tables they had available were at the back of the restaurant, and had bench seats on one side, effectlively we were on 2 tables , making cross table conversation impossible.! It took at least 10 minutes to take our drinks order, another 20 minutes to take our food order. 4 ordered tapas, 4 ordered meat paella. The waiter said he has made sure that the tapas and paella came at the same time... The tapas started to come out fairly soon after, but after well over an hour the paella had not arrived. Not one waiter who delivered the tapas made any comment about the fact that the remaining 4 of us had no food at all.... I assume they gave our paella to someone else, as when it finally arrived it was a fish paella not a meat paella, and the other 4 had completely finished their meal, although one dish never turned up at all.! After a brief discussion, we settled for ensaladilla ( which was tasteless), and croquettas ( which came out so quickly they must have been diverted from someone else´s table). Needless to say my brother and my niece discreetly went inside the restaurant to discuss this fiasco with the manager, who admitted he has lost control of the restaurant. The chef must also have lost control of the kitchen. The staff were not trained well. There was a discount, but that did not compensate for my ruined belated 70th birthday.. If it had been left to me , there would have been no discreet chat with the manager, I woudl have called him out to the table and made a very noisy complaint. We will not be going...
Read moreVery poor. It looks very nice from the outside but that's where the good ends. It is understaffed so don't expect good and efficient service. We booked a table In person and asked for a specific table as the tables at the ends of the restaurant seem poorly lit and as it was for a special occasion we wanted it to be right. It wasn't! When we arrived they had given our table away and we were seated at the far end of the restaurant in the dark. I wish we had walked away at that point as it only got worse. Half of the table had tapas and half ordered meat paella the tapas came out after around 1/2 hour and was average, nearly 1 1/2 hours after being ordered a fish paella arrived as this was not suitable for those that ordered it. So after a somewhat frustrating conversation they brought out some tapas some of which was cold. It was just a nightmare of a night. They did knock some off the bill but the attitude was awful. We will not be going again and would urge anyone thinking of going here to...
Read moreThe "papas bravas" (chilly potatoes) which is a Spanish classic, was served instead in a disgusting mayonnaise. If you don't know how to make papas bravas just do not put it on the menu! The grilled octopus and cuttlefish were half burnt, and by the taste of it they were not fresh at all. The only decent thing were the "calamares a la Andaluza" (fried breaded squids). I have ended up feeling sick! Restaurants in Playa San Juan in general are pretty poor, but this one should be reported to the health...
