A place is only as good as the people who serve the guests. And here the story in Barcelona, at a sunny Thursday morning starts. Abdul and Dorka offered us a beautiful table on the impressive entrance of Billy Brunch - a very well recommended place in Barcelona.
I could start to tell you how Segundo smiled nicely while serving us the water and a black coffee - in a piano white porcelain cup, one with a sunshine smile logo that looks like a chicken that enjoys life.
The logo of Billy Brunch explains that someone, I guess the founder, took conscious time to build this brand. More than that, the place, located on a quiet side street, serves way more than delicious food for fair prices - it provides an incredible experience on human base.
What I mean by that: Abdul is from Bangladesh and I recognized his roots instantly as I traveled in 2011 through his home country. Obviously he runs the place like it would be his own family business - with passion, with coolness and always with a focus to serve everyone who comes in and out.
When I was enjoying my day, Abdul coordinated beautifully a working team of happy people, most interestingly young waitresses from Amsterdam or Budapest and also obviously from Barcelona. The social diversity is a great feeling during the entire experience. No matter if Zoe, Gio, Dorka, Segundo or anyone in the kitchen whose name I can’t know - people working at Billy Brunch love their life. They are happy people and this love flows into your food and drinks.
So do yourself a favor: go and enjoy your life with the amazing people at Billy Brunch. The place is a good vibes place and if you follow me on google, you quickly see that I do only review very selectively.
I write this review because I feel how authenticity meets cosmopolitan flair and as a world traveler it’s my obligation to highlight the places, that spread the love for each other while having great quality food.
Billy Brunch is that place and if you are in Barcelona, get your beautiful body there and be as amazing as the people enjoying life there - and most importantly enjoy it...
Read moreThis place is no longer up to standard. When I lived in Barcelona five years ago, it was great (at a different location), but during two recent visits while on holiday, the experience was deeply disappointing. It seems like the place has either been sold, franchised, or undergone a drastic drop in quality.
The food is no longer enjoyable—bland flavors and poorly cooked dishes. The ingredients also feel cheap and low-quality. The pancakes were dry, topped with low-grade chocolate from squeeze bottles and subpar whipped cream. Even the salad tasted like it came from a low-quality farm.
What used to be a good spot has now turned into the worst brunch experience I’ve ever had. Truly disappointing.
EDIT TO THE ANSWER:
Dear Owner,
I want to clarify that I do not seek a refund nor plan to return, as I stand firmly by my review of this establishment. We were a group of five, and all of us agreed that the quality of the food has significantly declined. Three of us currently live in Barcelona, and the other two lived here for six years, so this isn’t about a one-time experience (it’s about a clear and noticeable change in quality that anyone can see and taste).
I hope you take this feedback constructively as a business owner and use it as an opportunity to reassess the quality of your food. This review reflects my honest opinion and that of others, and the rating is a fair representation of the food we received.
After reassessing based on the rating, I agree with your feedback and have updated the service rating for the staff...
Read moreThe menu overall (specifically the brunch part) sounded delicious, but we went to try the pancakes, so we ordered two types of pancakes - I got the classic ones with maple syrup and fruits, my boyfriend got the dulce de leche ones.
His pancakes were 10/10, extremely delicious, but mine were the exact opposite - they came completely plain, just stacked on top of each other (no syrup or anything between them, just plain, dry pancakes) with two blobs of whipped cream to the side, a bit of fruit and a tiny pot with maple syrup that was not enough in anyway to actually soak the pancakes, so that they're not dry. The end result was just some dry, plain pancakes that, by the time you finish them, you need water to more easily swallow the dry pieces (and the pancakes themselves, not counting the maple syrup, had no taste whatsoever on their own, they were just soft, but completely tasteless).
The coffee was also just okay, definitely wouldn't call it good.
Overall, I would say it was not horrible especially given how tasty my boyfriend's pancakes were, but mine definitely left a bad taste in my mouth (both literally and figuratively speaking)...it's just ridiculous how poorly made they were almost as if all the effort of the making went into the other pancakes and they didn't have enough effort left to care about making the maple syrup...
