Very stressful environment, although a beautiful looking café.
I ordered a latte with oat-milk. After waiting for 15-20minutes, I kept nervously looking at the bar to figure out if they might have forgotten my order...they indeed did.
No worries, this happens, I thought.
I saw the barista prepare a latte with soy-milk (soy is something I am very allergic of- it induced asthma in me). My latte was brought shortly after and unfortunately did not taste like oat milk, but was soy milk. Luckily I had only taken one sip, and brought the coffee to the bar to double check for my own safety. And maybe ask for a replacement. On the bar, I was met by the two, very stressed owners, who did not provide a nice customer service, nor a reassuring experience, that this, in fact is not soy milk. What I was hearing was not very assuring things: “you ordered oat, this IS oat”, and “we use 2 different recipients to heat soy and oat, this can’t be soy...”
Well, this is my safety, and I put it first. So after not feeling helped by neither of the owners, I felt forced to leave. Neither of them seemed helpful.
As coffee shop owners or actually as any owners from all sorts of things, it is a given fact that mistakes can be made, if you’re standing under stress. Dear Masala Café, neither of you admitted that this was a possibility, that you, in fact, could have made a mistake, that for me, would have meant an asthma attack and an adrenaline shot into my leg.
The least you could have done, was to not make me pay for this coffee...
This was one of the worst coffee...

Read moreLet me start by saying that this has always been my favorite café in Barcelona. Today, I stopped by between meetings to grab breakfast, and when I tried to open my laptop to finish some stuff, I was told it's prohibited because it’s an "art space." It's not an art space—it’s a café. Stop creating stories for places that don’t need them. It’s a lovely café, but it’s still a café. I understand the intention, you want people to engage with each other and avoid turning the space into a co-working spot, but I explained it would only take five minutes, and the answer was still no. I was there alone, so it’s fine to be on my phone, but not on my laptop? That makes no sense. I’ve been to cafés all over the world and have never seen rules this strict. You’re located in the most international area of Barcelona, and sometimes people need to quickly answer some emails since they travel. Please stop the nonsense. I’m really disappointed, and I’m not sure if I’ll be...
