Coffee in Barcelona is a joyous occasion. A good place will have a way to distinguish itself from others. Bonsai does this with it's matcha. I only ordered a coffee and a gluten-free pastry, but upon reading the other reviews, I regret that I did not try it's signature menu item...
There are other parts to experience at Bonsai. One of them is the ability to people watch from one of its limited seats. Across from Bonsai are a few public parks that seemed to be the residence of some very comfortable pigeons. The neighborhood was bustling with foot traffic.
Upon observing this, I remember hearing comments from a local who lived in Barcelona about where the poor and rich people live in the city. The closer you get to the water, the neighborhoods tend to be places where the poor live. The further uphill, the rich tend to reside there. Bonsai seems to be in an area where you will see the upper and the middle class blend together.
I highly recommend coffee at a cafe in Barcelona, and Bonsai is a place to provide that essential adventure. Make sure to do some...
Read moreI hesitated a while before writing this review, not because of the quality, but, selfishly, I wanted to keep this spot for myself. But I think the secret is out now... This is possible the best coffee and matcha place in Barcelona.
Both their coffee and matcha are really amazing, you can taste they really care for good quality. Some places "just" make latte art, and pretend the coffee is good, here you get both pretty mugs and latte art but also, and most importantly, delicious drinks. The cookies, matcha croissants (!), and matcha doughnuts (!!) are out of this world too.
This is the kind of place you want in your neighbourhood to become your go-to cafe, or it's the place you want to visit for good matcha if you are in Barcelona for a few days. I have probably bought already at least 40 coffees and matcha's here, so it has certainly become my go-to cafe for a lazy morning. I'm really grateful to have found this gem, and I wish them all the best, they have build a beautiful place, so the success is...
Read moreI went today with my friend, recommended by an acquaintance, who said that the Uji matcha was very good.
My friend and I had two iced matcha lattes, one latte and another with strawberry.
We really have no complaints about the service, as they were super friendly and treated us wonderfully.
As for the matcha, it was a real disappointment. The matcha didn't have much of a matcha flavor, perhaps because the ratio of ice to milk and matcha wasn't right, but the truth is that we found the flavor to be very bland. It just tasted like milk, with water, and a very light, very subtle matcha flavor, almost non-existent.
My friend said the strawberry one only tasted like strawberry jam, that there was no matcha flavor at all. They used the Ceremonial Uji one for mine and the Kagoshima for my friend's.
It's nice that they prepare it fresh, and the finsl presentation of the product, but I think that given the price of the matcha itself it's not really worth it, I've tried...
