For Barcelona standards, and the area of where the restaurant was located, the food is expensive. They call it « dirty sushi » which is supposed to be comforting yummy sushi but we were utterly disappointed discomforted by salty everything that they served us. They drowned our orders of maki with that very sweet and at the same time, very salty soy sauce. We really felt we were just chewing some food with sweet and salty soy sauce. Not to mention the « salty » hosting of the waitress, she was cordial but her unpleasant vibe didn’t help to appreciate the restaurant after being served bad pseudo-japanese makis. Coming from Japan, it was really a let down coming here when we were nostalgic for Japanese food, and also the experience here was a big departure having to come to Barcelona from Bordeaux and the Peruvian-Japanese restaurant I went to in Bordeaux was so good. The food looked so colorful and nice, which are instagram-worthy but I tell you, it’s not worth to go for with the price and the craziness of the area where it’s located (near strip clubs and the hip-ghetto). The bartender was nice and gave a friendly vibe, unlike the waitress, but then again we came at the last hour of service so I guess the cooks and even the waitress are tired, hence the failure in food and service.
Also, if you are tourist like us, since the restaurant is in a cave, expect bad and very weak signal. The restaurant is very small so expect the other tables to be real near you and getting a bit of...

We came here with sushi withdrawals after 2 weeks of tapas and other standard Spainish fare. A couple sushi restaurants are around the area but we chose this one because it was the only one with unique and interesting menu options.
We got the MARACAIBO because it was the only option with unagi (eel), BLACK MAMBO because it was made with black rice, and CLASSIC CALIFORNIA just in case.
If we could do it over we would have tried another roll instead of the Cali. The other two were INCREDIBLE but the Cali was a bit standard (what we expected) and a bit odd with their choice to dizzle with mayonnaise.
The MARACAIBO was the best unagi roll I've had, period. Besides the very generous portion, it has a delicious smoky flavor that I've never had before. Smoked unagi instead of straight baked is a game changer!
The BLACK MAMBO had a passion fruit sauce that took it to the next level. One of the best things about sushi is the lightness and this was the really the first time I felt a sushi roll was refreshing.
Being from Los Angeles we have an incredible selection of sushi restaurants and this more than stands up to the high brow, fancy places we're used to experiencing. If you love sushi and in Barcelona this should be THE sushi restaurant on your...

The standout feature of this restaurant is undoubtedly its food. We enjoyed a great meal with very good dishes that left us thoroughly satisfied. The quality of the sushi and other offerings on the menu is impressive, living up to the expectations of even discerning diners.
Equally noteworthy is the attentive and friendly staff. Their excellent service enhanced our dining experience, making us feel welcome and well-cared for throughout our visit.
While the restaurant's location might make it a bit challenging to find, the journey is well worth it. Its off-the-beaten-path setting adds to its charm, offering a more intimate and authentic dining atmosphere away from the city's more touristy areas.
Overall, Mambo Sushi is a restaurant we highly recommend. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast (then note it is not traditional sushi served here) or simply looking for a great meal in a charming setting, this hidden gem is definitely worth a visit during your time...
