Just a few steps from the main street La Rambla is the square Plaça Reial, also known as the Royal Square, is a vibrant and historic square located in the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) of Barcelona, Spain. Built between 1848 and 1859, the square was designed by architect Francesc Molina as a luxurious space to glorify the Spanish monarchy. Originally intended to have a statue of King Fernando VII in the center, the plan was scrapped due to lack of funds. Instead, the iconic Fountain of the Three Graces was installed. The square's design is inspired by Napoleonic city squares, featuring uniform buildings with arcades on all sides. Interestingly, the young Antoni Gaudí designed the characteristic lampposts of the square, showcasing his early architectural talent. Today, Plaça Reial is a popular tourist destination, especially known for its lively nightlife. The arcades house numerous restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, offering a wide variety of food, drinks, and entertainment options. Fountain of the Three Graces: This cast-iron fountain in the center of the square depicts the three Graces from Greek mythology: Aglaia (brilliance), Euphrosyne (joy), and Thalia (bloom). Palm trees: The square is lined with palm trees, adding a touch of Mediterranean flair to...

Just as good as ever but Google please learn how to spell the location! It is known as Placa Reial! You do not do justice to the Catalonian nationality! It is still a wonderful square down La Ramblas in Barcelona full of wonderful Catalonian history. I've been coming here for -10years a d never tire of it's authenticy. I sat with Cedric, a French New Guinea local artist and bought him a beer whilst he happily sketches me a d my wife as a favour for being here again celebrating the local artists. Such a friendly and awe inspiring individual who has inspired me to start sketching again now I'm 60 years old and looking for an awe inspiring new vocation in life. He is the awe that has given me a new determination to start sketching in public again. I wish Cedric well and no doubt I will see him again. X
