As someone visiting Spain — and Barcelona — for the very first time, I had no idea my entire view on seafood was about to change.

I’ve never enjoyed seafood in Texas, where I’m from. I always found it too fishy, too chewy, or just not fresh enough. So when I sat down at O’Peregrino, a cozy Galician restaurant tucked away in Barcelona, I honestly didn’t expect much. I ordered the Langostinos Frescos more out of curiosity than excitement.

And wow — it completely blew me away.

These fresh prawns were grilled simply with olive oil and sea salt, and they were absolutely perfect. Tender, sweet, and full of flavor, they didn’t have that overwhelming fishy taste I was used to back home. It was the first time I understood why people love seafood.

I also tried the pulpo a la gallega (Galician-style octopus) — another surprise favorite — and the empanadas, which were flaky and delicious. The staff was incredibly warm and made the whole experience feel like a family dinner. I paired my meal with a glass of crisp Albariño, which balanced the seafood beautifully.

전반적으로 음식의 맛은 최상에 가까웠습니다. 에피타이저로 주는 튀긴 멸치(보께론)은 너무나도 신선하고 맛있었습니다. 가장 기억에 남는 블루펭 참치 카르파치오는 너무나도 신선하고 맛이 진하고 같이 버무린 소스의 맛은 참치의 맛을 더 올려주는 감칠맛이 대단하였고 같이 나오는 빵도 너무 따듯하게 잘 구워서 줬습니다. 또한 맛조개 요리를 시켰는데 여행객들이 자주가는 타파스 식당의 맛조개 요리랑은 맛과 신선도가 비교를 할 수 없습니다. 조개중에서 탐부리냐 라는 조개는 같이 곁들인 야채절임과 잘 어울리고 너무나도 좋은 식감을 느낄 수 있었습니다, 메인 요리로 주문한 파에야는 신선한 홍합과 새우 그리고 랑구스틴 새우로 구성되어 나왔습니다. 맛은 랑구스틴 새우가 있는데 맛은 당연한겁니다. 파에야의 온도와 식감도 아주 좋았습니다. 그리고 매우 친절한 직원인 미겔(Miguel)씨가 새우와 홍합을 모두 손질해서 줍니다. 두번째 메인이었던 고기요리는 스페인 고기 특성상 한국의 기름진 소고기가 아닌 매우 담백하고 육향이 좋은 고기였습니다. 씹는맛도 좋았고 양도 충분한 맛있는 고기 요리 였습니다. 누구에게 마지막은 중요합니다. 디저트는 정말로 훌륭했습니다. 신선한 딸기로 만든 따듯한 콤포트에 마다가스카르산 바닐라를 듬뿍 넣은 아이스크림은 진짜로 맛있었습니다. 스페인의 자랑인 까바는 카탈루냐 지방의 페네데스 산에서 나오는 카탈루냐 까바로 마셨습니다. 직원의 추천에 따랐는데 아주 깔끔하고 이 식당의 요리와 전반적으로 다 어울렸습니다.

저희의 서비스를 맡아주신 분은 미겔씨였습니다. 너무나도 친절하시고 음식의 대한 자부심과 디테일한 설명은 정말 존경스럽다고 느껴졌습니다. 또한 손님의 먹는속도와 접시을 교체 해주는 타이밍을 다 보고있고 항상 미소를 잃지 않고 있습니다. 물론 미겔씨는 영어가 안됩니다, 그러나 구글 번역기를 음성으로 하여 충분한 의사소통이 가능하고 미겔씨도 번역기를 적극적으로 나서서 해주십니다. 그러니 영어가 안된다고 힘들거라 생각하지 마세요 미겔씨는 최선을 다해서 도와줄겁니다. 추천해달라하면 정말로 열심히 음식을 추천해줘요.

전반적으로 클래식하고 깔끔하고 적당한 인테리어의 식당입니다. 화려하지는 않지만 그만큼 식사를 편하게 할 수 있습니다.오히려 단정한 인테리어가 식사하는데 더 도움이 된다고 느껴집니다.

Food

Overall, the taste of the food was close to perfection. The appetizer of fried anchovies (Boquerones) was incredibly fresh and delicious. The most memorable dish, the Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio, was exceedingly fresh, with a rich flavor, and the sauce mixed with it enhanced the taste of the tuna with a remarkable umami. The bread served alongside was also perfectly warm and well-toasted. Additionally, we ordered a clam dish that incomparably surpassed the taste and freshness of clam dishes at tapas restaurants frequently visited by tourists. Among the clams, the “tamburinya” clam, paired with pickled vegetables, offered an excellent texture and flavor. The main dish, paella, was served with fresh mussels, shrimp, and langoustine. Naturally, the taste was exceptional, given the presence of langoustine. The temperature and texture of the paella were also very pleasing. Furthermore, the very kind staff member, Miguel, meticulously prepared the shrimp and mussels for us. The second main dish, a meat dish, featured the lean and flavorful meat typical of Spain, not the fatty beef common in Korea. It was delicious, with a great chewy texture and a generous portion.

Desserts are crucial for many. The dessert was truly excellent. The warm compote made with fresh strawberries and generously topped with Madagascar vanilla ice cream was genuinely delicious. For the drink, we followed the staff’s recommendation and enjoyed a Catalan Cava from the Penedès region in Catalonia, which was very clean and complemented the restaurant’s dishes well.

Service

Our service was provided by Miguel. He was incredibly kind, and his pride in the food, along with his detailed explanations, was truly admirable. He also closely monitored our eating pace and the timing for changing plates, always maintaining a smile. Although Miguel does not speak English, communication was not an issue thanks to voice translation on Google Translate, which he actively used. So, do not worry if you don’t speak the language; Miguel will do his best to assist you. He was very enthusiastic about recommending dishes.

From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed by both the server and the chef. The atmosphere was clean, elegant, and inviting. Every dish we had — including the fried anchovies served as an appetizer — was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio stood out as particularly delicious and memorable. The service was also excellent throughout the meal.

We appreciated the witty and thoughtful response to the comment we left when making the reservation — a nice personal touch. As we were leaving, both the server and chef saw us off with a warm farewell, which left us with a genuinely happy feeling.

한국어/ English 23/2/2024 음식 전반적으로 음식의 맛은 최상에 가까웠습니다. 에피타이저로 주는 튀긴 멸치(보께론)은 너무나도 신선하고 맛있었습니다. 가장 기억에 남는 블루펭 참치 카르파치오는 너무나도 신선하고 맛이 진하고 같이 버무린 소스의 맛은 참치의 맛을 더 올려주는 감칠맛이 대단하였고 같이 나오는 빵도 너무 따듯하게 잘 구워서 줬습니다. 또한 맛조개 요리를 시켰는데 여행객들이 자주가는 타파스 식당의 맛조개 요리랑은 맛과 신선도가 비교를 할 수 없습니다. 조개중에서 탐부리냐 라는 조개는 같이 곁들인 야채절임과 잘 어울리고 너무나도 좋은 식감을 느낄 수 있었습니다, 메인 요리로 주문한 파에야는 신선한 홍합과 새우 그리고 랑구스틴 새우로 구성되어 나왔습니다. 맛은 랑구스틴 새우가 있는데 맛은 당연한겁니다. 파에야의 온도와 식감도 아주 좋았습니다. 그리고 매우 친절한 직원인 미겔(Miguel)씨가 새우와 홍합을 모두 손질해서 줍니다. 두번째 메인이었던 고기요리는 스페인 고기 특성상 한국의 기름진 소고기가 아닌 매우 담백하고 육향이 좋은 고기였습니다. 씹는맛도 좋았고 양도 충분한 맛있는 고기 요리 였습니다. 누구에게 마지막은 중요합니다. 디저트는 정말로 훌륭했습니다. 신선한 딸기로 만든 따듯한 콤포트에 마다가스카르산 바닐라를 듬뿍 넣은 아이스크림은 진짜로 맛있었습니다. 스페인의 자랑인 까바는 카탈루냐 지방의 페네데스 산에서 나오는 카탈루냐 까바로 마셨습니다. 직원의 추천에 따랐는데 아주 깔끔하고 이 식당의 요리와 전반적으로 다 어울렸습니다. 서비스 저희의 서비스를 맡아주신 분은 미겔씨였습니다. 너무나도 친절하시고 음식의 대한 자부심과 디테일한 설명은 정말 존경스럽다고 느껴졌습니다. 또한 손님의 먹는속도와 접시을 교체 해주는 타이밍을 다 보고있고 항상 미소를 잃지 않고 있습니다. 물론 미겔씨는 영어가 안됩니다, 그러나 구글 번역기를 음성으로 하여 충분한 의사소통이 가능하고 미겔씨도 번역기를 적극적으로 나서서 해주십니다. 그러니 영어가 안된다고 힘들거라 생각하지 마세요 미겔씨는 최선을 다해서 도와줄겁니다. 추천해달라하면 정말로 열심히 음식을 추천해줘요. 분위기 전반적으로 클래식하고 깔끔하고 적당한 인테리어의 식당입니다. 화려하지는 않지만 그만큼 식사를 편하게 할 수 있습니다.오히려 단정한 인테리어가 식사하는데 더 도움이 된다고 느껴집니다. English Food Overall, the taste of the food was close to perfection. The appetizer of fried anchovies (Boquerones) was incredibly fresh and delicious. The most memorable dish, the Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio, was exceedingly fresh, with a rich flavor, and the sauce mixed with it enhanced the taste of the tuna with a remarkable umami. The bread served alongside was also perfectly warm and well-toasted. Additionally, we ordered a clam dish that incomparably surpassed the taste and freshness of clam dishes at tapas restaurants frequently visited by tourists. Among the clams, the “tamburinya” clam, paired with pickled vegetables, offered an excellent texture and flavor. The main dish, paella, was served with fresh mussels, shrimp, and langoustine. Naturally, the taste was exceptional, given the presence of langoustine. The temperature and texture of the paella were also very pleasing. Furthermore, the very kind staff member, Miguel, meticulously prepared the shrimp and mussels for us. The second main dish, a meat dish, featured the lean and flavorful meat typical of Spain, not the fatty beef common in Korea. It was delicious, with a great chewy texture and a generous portion. Desserts are crucial for many. The dessert was truly excellent. The warm compote made with fresh strawberries and generously topped with Madagascar vanilla ice cream was genuinely delicious. For the drink, we followed the staff’s recommendation and enjoyed a Catalan Cava from the Penedès region in Catalonia, which was very clean and complemented the restaurant’s dishes well. Service Our service was provided by Miguel. He was incredibly kind, and his pride in the food, along with his detailed explanations, was truly admirable. He also closely monitored our eating pace and the timing for changing plates, always maintaining a smile. Although Miguel does not speak English, communication was not an issue thanks to voice translation on Google Translate, which he actively used. So, do not worry if you don’t speak the language; Miguel will do his best to assist you. He was very enthusiastic about recommending dishes. Atmosphere The restaurant’s overall atmosphere is classic, clean, and features appropriate decor. While not flashy, it offers a comfortable dining experience. The simple interior, in fact, enhances the dining experience.

From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed by both the server and the chef. The atmosphere was clean, elegant, and inviting. Every dish we had — including the fried anchovies served as an appetizer — was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio stood out as particularly delicious and memorable. The service was also excellent throughout the meal. We appreciated the witty and thoughtful response to the comment we left when making the reservation — a nice personal touch. As we were leaving, both the server and chef saw us off with a warm farewell, which left us with a genuinely happy feeling. Out of all the restaurants we visited in Barcelona, this one will remain the most memorable. If we ever return to the city, we would definitely come back.
