My husband and I went here as part of our honeymoon in Spain. We had never been to a Michelin star restaurant before and were very excited to experience it.
We had the gastronomy dinner menu alongside a bottle of rioja. We were seated on time and by a friendly staff member. I saw a recent review that said people here were rude, and our experience was far from that.
Staff members were attentive but not in a bothersome way. We were encouraged to ask for more bread and our wine and water glasses were always full. There were also English speaking staff members if that is of concern for you.
I have a gluten allergy which was accommodated with ease. The gf bread they provided was outstanding! The dishes provided plenty of opportunity to sop up your sauce with the bread as well. Stand outs were the shrimp with tiger milk and the veal with accompaniments. The shrimp was the most tender I’ve ever had and the sauce was to die for. The veal was perfectly cooked with a beautiful touch of salt on the finish.
Instead of the cuttlefish entree, I was given a fish of the day due to my gluten allergy. It was also tender and delicious. Honorable mention is the mushroom dish. It had some of the tastiest mushrooms I’ve ever had!
The gf dessert I was given was a refreshing end to a filling meal. We were worried that the smaller portion coursed menu may not fill us up but we left with happy and full bellies. The whole experience took about 2.5 hours but we definitely took our time compared to some of those around us.
On top of all of this, Hofmann is a school providing fine dining experience for aspiring chefs. You could see them at work through a glass partition that divides the kitchen and the dining room.
Someone on Google reviews had complained about how dark the restaurant was. It was almost too bright in there during our experience, but we were expecting it to be dark and moody.
All in all, this was a highlight of our trip and a dynamic culinary experience. The service was top notch and we...

However, I found the yellowtail dish too sour to taste any of the fish, and the pork belly was too tough and dry and hard to finish.
The pork trotter was the most disappointing. I discovered four bones in the dish, which made it difficult to enjoy and felt unexpected at this level. When the server came to clear the table, he noticed the bones on the plate, pointed at them, and offered a quick, dismissive "sorry" before walking away. The issue was never acknowledged again.
At one point, I stepped away to use the restroom, and during that brief time, the next course was served, with the full presentation given only to the remaining diner at the table. This felt rushed and inconsiderate, especially at a restaurant where timing and attention are meant to be part of the experience.
There were a couple of other inconveniences that I would find excusable if the food and service was better, but coupled with the above experiences, they really set the tone for the evening. For one, the service felt a bit hurried, and it felt as though our server seemed to rush through his explanations, sometimes walking away from the table as he was finishing his sentence. Secondly, I was seated next to a shelving unit of sorts that rattled/thumped each time the kitchen door opened or closed, a small but persistent distraction.
I had expected the host to ask for feedback when the bill was presented, but that didn’t happen either, so I didn’t have the opportunity to raise these concerns in person.
At a Michelin-starred restaurant, I would have expected greater attention to detail, not just in the food, but in the service, pacing, and overall...
Read moreThe experience of eating at the Hofmann is one that me and my partner will not soon forget. Eating at such a fine dining establishment as this is not one that is common for us, so when we arrived at the restaurant on unassuming side street in Barcelona, the welcome we received when we arrived, was perfect and put us immediately at ease. Our host firstly took us to our table which was amazing and was positioned directly in front of the open plan kitchen, which allowed us to see all the action, which made the experience even better it my opinion. The menu was then explained, we had picked the 8 course tasting menu and we then decided to add wine to our meal which was no issue. Each course was an experience, the ingredients explained, along with the cooking methods and (when required) a suggested order in which to get the best out the dish. Each dish was small in size, but huge in skill and flavour (the Messi of food if you will). The pace of each course was amazing also, just as we could see into the kitchen the head chef could see out and i sure allows him to ensure the pace of the kitchen keeps up with each table. There was never a point where you were waiting for our next course, the same must be said for the drinks. As soon as your glass is nearly empty the waiter arrives and fills your glass, which is a good thing as the wine pairing for the dishes are amazing and well explained by our waiter. As said at the start this is an experience with flavours me and my parter will not forget. We couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly if we tried and is well worth every penny and well...
