We went to San Kil, a Korean restaurant in BCN I had never heard about until 1 hour before. A friend of mine told me it was on the top of her bucket list and that gave me the idea in part to try something new and in part to make her jealous, I reckon. 🤣 More seriously, their menu is divided in a traditional half and a more modern half, kinda fusion with local cuisine. 💡 From that modern menu, we ordered bulgogi meatballs with a sweet and savory sauce. That was good but too sweet for me and definitely too salty: I spent the next 3 hours drinking water. We also ordered Yukhoe (beef tartare). It was just a regular yukhoe, actually. It was good but the texture wasn't there, this one was too smooth (IMO), I couldn't feel any resistance under my teeth. But the flavor was there. 👍 We also had fried mandus. They were absolutely delicious. 👏 And we had dolsot bibimbap 🍲. The flavor was great but the rice was slightly overcooked to my taste. Also the bowl wasn't hot enough (again to my taste), so the texture didn't change as we were eating. 😞 Finally we finished with hotteok, very good but very small for €6.5, and a French toast... well, it was supposed to be a French toast but it was just a brioche 🍞 topped with anko 🫘. Both desserts were topped with an ice cream scoop 🍨, extremely sweet and with a weird texture that wasn't on point at all. 👎 The venue is rough: I wasn't expecting anything fancy but an object that probably was a covered bike in the middle of the dining room is a bit too much. 😓 Finally the server was... I don't know how to qualify her: she wasn't aware of some basic concepts related to Korean cuisine (like dolsot), she was not paying attention to us (she removed the plate in from on my wife and left one in front of an empty chair), she served my wife some wine that I immediately smelled had turned vinegar, etc. 😮💨 Btw, who stole the gas from my Cass beer?! 🤔 €25 each sounds fair: we ate too much (but didn't drink wine in the end). . . . Quality & taste: 7/10 Quantities: 8/10 Atmosphere: 3/10 Originality: 7/10 Ratio price / quality: 7/10 Service: 3/10 How I felt...
Read moreCan't help it but when I travel, at some point, I am going to NEED Korean food. I have learned to lower my expectations when it comes to Korean restaurants outside of the U.S. and Korea. We came in just wanting some rice and banchan, after all the Spanish food we'd been eating.
We ordered the tabletop beef barbeque and OMG it was soooooo good! The kaennip banchan was delicioso and the BBQ was served w/a tasty green onion salad and fresh greens to wrap the meat in. I would have come back the next night if I didn't already have other plans.
If you are in the mood for something other than Spanish cuisine, then I recommend you try this restaurant. Prices were reasonable and the service...
Read moreThis is some of the best korean food I've ever had. Period. Especially the marinated beef and the kimchi are on point and overall, the food is on par with LA K-town or NY, and def better than Korea itself since beef is so much more expensive in Korea. Small mom and pop duo who churn everything out by hand and make korean food the old school way with their own fermentation and all that, pretty cool to find in BCN.
Surprised to see a couple complaints - y'all tourists need to calm down and perhaps, try to bring some better energy than just your entitlement. This joint has got it going on and we've eaten here at least 15 times in the last couple years, ever since we found this amazing gem...
