I used to spend my weekends at a terrace, just eating, drinking and chilling. This was when life was cheaper. Now I can't afford it. And, to be honest, I have so many other things to do too! A few weeks ago, the whole family 👨👩👦 (yes, the whole 3 of us! 🤣) decided to go and have a snack before lunch. A snack in Barcelona, generally means a tapa or 2. The thing with terraces in Barcelona is that they're quite common but they also are quite small. And expecting to find a seat at a terrace on a square in Gràcia is like day-dreaming. So we had to walk around the neighborhood for a while (🚶...🚶...🚶...🚶) before we could find a spot at Terra Bar, Plaça de la Virreina. Our son is quite young and if we want him to have lunch, we can't order too many tapas, so we stuck to the classics: bravas 🥔. A few posts ago, I talked about how salsa brava is something that differs depending on the family / restaurant / bar. There are so many interpretations of it! But what is certain is that it IS NOT a cocktail sauce with some paprika on the top, like what we were served that day. 😤 The sauce was soooo sweet that we couldn't feel the potatoes. So we ended up eating the potatoes alone. It turns out that these potatoes were very good and they were even salty (whereas they needed some 🧂 when eaten with the sauce). I'm always glad to eat some good potatoes but, if I order bravas, I expect bravas, not plain potatoes, and especially for €6 and such a small share! On the bright side, the waiter was very nice and helpful, we could enjoy some good weather on one of the most emblematic squares of the neighborhood and, most of all, we got to spend some quality time together as a family. 💙

Read moreThis is not a place for groups. Although it's 2024, they don't take multiple payments, so someone has to pay the entire bill. Every business has a right to do whatever works for them, and I'm sure they probably have an unfortunate history for instituting such a policy, but this is a deal breaker for me, considering that the technology is available, they just choose not to do it and are very smug about it. Oh, but please be aware there is a small sign in small font hung at the top of the umbrellas out of reasonable line of sight on the terrace that explains...
