Bar Virreina — Restaurant in Barcelona

Not a great option. Drinks are very weak (I watched the bartender make a “sangria” (it might have been a tinto de verano?) and it was, truly, 90% lemon soda topped with 10% red wine. The food isn’t great either; in particular the patatas bravas are more like potato chips than fried potatoes (I think this alluded to on the menu but I gave them the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistranslation… it wasn’t). The nachos at the table beside me also looked underwhelming. Their queue system is weird and everyone gets all grumpy at everyone else, which I haven’t seen at other tapas bars that manage their waitlists more effectively. The bar has a spectacular location. Both in winter and summer, the Plaza de Virreina is very pleasant. The menu is basic and the prices normal. The salads are very good. The service, regrettably not good. At the tables outside the bar, only one waiter. And as attentive as it may be, the volume of work compromises the quality of service. At the best square of Gracia and since it is so close to my home, I can say I am a regular but offcourse it is impossible to find place at the terrace in the sunny weekends.
