Went here due to the reviews but stay away. Bruschetta has dried oregano 🤔 no garlic basil or olive oil, basics of an Italian restaurant!! . Ciabatta is more like a thin flatbread with a few cherry tomatoes chopped and a few slices of garlic thrown on top. Garlic and chilli prawns were really good though and was the only success in 4 starters. Finished our drinks before mains, asked for 2 more cola’s and we’re given small bottles to pour ourselves and no fresh glasses nor ice so had to ask and still had to pour and were brought the ice with tongs and dropped into the used glasses …. Shocking! Waiter had t shirt and shorts on which I found a bit strange in a restaurant for dinner. Mains came and the arabiatta had no chilli and the sauce was bland , again basics of the dish missed out. My sons king prawn spaghetti with chilli again had no chilli and the pasta was getting to al-dente but waiter argued it was fine. My youngest sons pizza was average so we paid for starters and sent the rest back. We were offered full replacements for free but the damage had been done as I didn’t believe they could turn it around . I don’t mind paying for good food and service and planned to spend apx €50 each for the 4 of us but ended up cutting short and paying €78 which included wine at €25. Not a good...
Read moreOverall a great experience! One of the best pastas I’ve ever had (spaghetti with tomato - simple but classic). We went there 2 times for dinner in one week and my girl picked up one pizza to go one additional time. The server who I’m guessing is also the owner since he has been there every single night was very friendly and it was clear that the food was made with love. My girlfriend had the truffle rigatoni twice and enjoyed them very much! Once she tried the porcini (mushroom) tagliatelle and had to send them back because they unfortunately were not washed properly so it felt like she had lots of small stones and sand in her mouth. It was simply not edible the way it was… the owner was very understanding though and made her another dish free of charge. Great service but the food lost one star here… My partner liked the pizza very much - I thought the crust was not my favorite but that’s subjective I guess. Overall would recommend to go there for dinner and have some pasta...
Read moreAfter a long, touristic day, we ended up on the terrace of Trattoria da Giovanni for a quick, simple dinner.
Atmosphere: The terrace has a pleasant ambiance, though it’s located in a narrow street.
Service: A very kind waiter, who decided to speak German to us 😏 (for the record, Amsterdam is not in Germany). That aside, he was very helpful and service-oriented.
Food: Tasty, but nothing extraordinary. The penne had a bit too much red sauce and not enough aubergine. The salami pizza could have used a little more cheese. The wine, however, was excellent, and we really appreciated the complimentary limoncello at the end.
Price: We paid €60, including a bottle of wine — quite reasonable.
Conclusion: Trattoria da Giovanni delivered exactly what we needed after a busy day. We’re torn between giving it 3 or 4 stars — shame there’s...
