Budweiser — Restaurant in Elx / Elche

Abusive rude intimidating barman. Signs advertising the terrace smoking area but access is blocked with barriers. I think you may have to buy something from the bar to get access but this is not clear from any of the signage. I mistakenly went through the barrier without buying something and the barman got very annoyed and started to shout at me. I immediately went to the exit to leave the area and he came after me shouting in a very abusive, aggressive and intimidating manner. Telling me he would call the police and that he would have me arrested and I would not be able to board my flight. There was no attempt to explain what was required to gain access or for me to respond. If he explained calmly and politelty what was required then I would have followed that. Instead he lost his temper and threatened me. Any smoking area I have encountered before was free to access. There needs to be some understanding with your staff that foreigners may not be used to this procedure with access to a smoking terrace. There seems to be alot of folks on here with negative feedback...

Very friendly staff... Good smoking area... it would have been ideal if you could order the coffees upstairs so as not to have to carry them upstairs to the smoking zone. Having just read some other comments, I must add that I did not find any of the staff to be rude... what I did witness was that the staff had to repeat themselves to many people who were using the facilities, tables and seating in the smoking area, without having purchased anything from the establishment... it's only fair that the business has to cover its overheads... How would you feel if you had purchased something to consume, and then there was no room for you because of people just using it as a smoking balcony?! There should be more signage advising of this... the girl in the upstairs bar (María, I think, with dyed red hair) was having a hard time explaining this principle to non-customers (some of them, British like I am, were choosing to play ignorant)... I am fluent in Spanish also... I'm not saying that only the British were 'offending', but, certainly, the girl was...

Found the only place to smoke in the airport (Budweiser Bar terrace). As there was a sign that it was only open to patrons of the Budweiser Bar, I dutifully bought a bottle of coke. I went back to tell my friend where I'd be (as he was looking after our hand luggage). Having not been told that I would need my receipt, I did not keep it. When I went back 10mins later, I was told, very rudely, that I couldn't go onto the terrace without buying something from the bar. I showed her the (unopened) come and explained that I bought it there but did not keep my receipt. Her reply was "No receipt, no entry". There was no way that I was buying another drink there (I begrudged the [over-inflated] price that I'd already paid for the coke. I was unhappy about their extortion in the first place but, after dealing with their rude and unreasonable staff, I will certainly not spend any money in their bar...
