Aigu cova restaurant Cales Fonts — Restaurant in es Castell

After looking over all the menus of restaurants open on Es Castell harbour, Aigu had the best options for us and our children. We were seated promptly at a harbour side table even though many tables were reserved. Service was friendly and with excellent English putting our lack of conversational Spanish to shame. We ordered the mixed paella and the children had burger & chips and chicken nuggets & chips. The paella took 30 mins to arrive which is absolutely fine for that dish. The children were hungry so their meals arrived earlier. Worth noting that “chips” aren’t what are normally considered chills but are more patatas bravas style cubed potato. Fine for one child but the fussier one wasn’t keen and the only reason to give 4 stars for food rather than 5. Our paella was delicious although be prepared for lots of bones on the rabbit meat - absolutely fine as it’s authentic but could be seen as “a bit too much work” for those not used to bones in dishes. Great location at the end of the harbour with a good view to both the boats coming into Mahon (we had the added “excitement” of a salvage passing….) and of the sweep of Es Castell harbour. We visited here twice during our recent stay in nearby Mahon. On both occasions the cooking was very good. The produce fresh and tasty. A fabulous setting. A nice menu. It was just that on one occasion, during what was a very busy lunch time service, our main meal seemed to have been missed.., while all those sat nearby received and completed theirs. After a quiet word with the manager (also operating front of house) the food arrived and it was again tasty. Just a little bit of a pity. We would certainly return again, expecting another lovely meal, but hopefully without the delays in...

We spent 5 days in Menorca and after our second evening there we ended up at Aigu Cova restaurant in Cales Fonts and what a gem of a place. We loved it so much we went back 3 nights in the row. The view, the drinks, the food, and the staff were all fabulous. We had a delicious paella, croquettes, octopus at a very decent price, and lots of Pomadas and wine and local digestif.
