Very friendly local bar
A typical Spanish bar/restaurant with a few tables outside in the pedestrian Calle for lunch or dinner. Met by very friendly patron who’s English is better than our Spanish.
We called for an early (20:30) evening meal. Their Ensalada Tomate (€5) is exceptional, sliced selected tomatoes sprinkled with chopped garlic, sea salt and dressed with delicious local olive oil, simple but delicious, much better than served in many other restaurants. We selected a plate of fried John Dory (€7) and a plate of calamari (€10) for mains. The fish was cooked to perfection, seasoned well and not overcooked, calamari was equally delicious. Read moreThe service was terrible, he bought us a bottle of Barbadillo which my wife had asked whether this could be included with the menu of pescaditos. When we ordered a medio dish of queso and ibercos he condescendingly said this is a cold dish. Eventually after six tables had been served before us and we had nearly finished the wine he came with the plato ibericos then ignored us. Waited for a further 30mins for him to bring the fish, and when my wife (who speaks fluent Spanish) asked where it was, he said “you didn’t order it “. What little food we had was perfectly fine. A "Lonja" is where they auction off the fish, early in the morning, when the fishing boats have all come in.
You'll see a picture of a big fish on the nameboard of this restaurant. it calls itself a Marisquería-Cervecería, which means Shellfish bar and beer house. And indeed it is well regarded for the quality of its fish tapas and meals.
It is now also venturing out into meat dishes too, to widen its offer and please more customers. So you can have lamb chops, pork loin, and all sorts of Iberian charcuterie and hams.
