Went there with my daughter. The plaza is just lovely, quaint and full of life in a way synonymous with Estepona. We ordered octopus salad to start and then I had the fish of the day which was a snapper and my daughter had grilled Squid. To start, the bread, butter and pickles they brought at the start were just right to prepare the palette for the seafood to come. The salad was simple with clean flavors, the onions and octopus flavors were clear, distinct and fresh all in a sea of potatoes, olive oil and lemon... What a nice starter, made us wanting more. My snapper was fresh out of the water and was seasoned beautifully with salt. Perfect, the veggies and potatoes were OK sides but the fish took center stage. Plus I am proud to say that I did not use the lemon wedge provided. It was totally not needed as the fish was perfect. My daughter's squid was also to die for I had a bite and would have eaten it all if my daughter allowed, which she did not. But she felt full after the meal but in a nice way. We both left the table feeling contentment and did not feel bloated at all. Will take the whole family there next time. The table beside us ordered seafood paella and it looked Devine... My order next time. Enjoy. This is a keeper for me.
This is added on 14 June.: Yesterday took the whole family and I ordered the Paella, it was excellent.. Honestly, I ate nearly the two portions.. My wife and son had the grilled squid and my daughter started with gazpacho and Main was Octopus Salad... This friendly restaurant is in the Plaza Dr Arce, the little triangular-shaped square with a statue and fountain in the middle, between the Plaza de las Flores and the Calle Terraza.
Traffic-free, you sit out here under the orange trees (gorgeous scent of orange blossom in spring!) and listen to the fountain as you sip your wine and wait for your food.
But first you must sit down at the right table . . .
There are in fact 4 different eating places in this square, and their tables are all spread out. What you need to do is look at the place you are going to eat.
Let's say Gavilán del Mar. OK, look at the table nearest to its door. What colour is the table? What are the chairs like? How about the sunshade?
Having taken careful note of all this, you then select the table whose position you prefer, ensuring that it's from the right eating place. otherwise you may end up having to eat a Knickerbocker Glory instead of a lovely plate of fish!
Lovely plates of fish is what you'll get here in this...
Read moreMy wife and I were in Estapona in May and stumbled on this restaurant situated on a beautiful, quaint little square. Stepping into El Gavilan was an absolute delight! The cozy, intimate ambiance of eating on bustling square was perfect. We indulged in their fresh seafood, which was simply excellent—perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The sangria was a highlight, too, expertly prepared and incredibly refreshing. Darek, our waiter was truly outstanding, providing attentive and friendly service and great conversation that elevated the entire dining experience. A perfect spot for a memorable meal! So memorable that we ate there three nights during our one week stay. We would have went back for a fourth night but...
