I had one of the best meals of my life when I came here a few years ago so we went out of our way to do a day trip to Hondarribia from San Seb when we were there in September just to come back to this restaurant. Unfortunately they were not open in line with their opening hours. We hung around waiting while a guy was hosing down the tables out the front. Lots of other people also showed up and hung around, unsure why they weren't open per advertised times. We ended up waiting for 30 minutes while the staff looked at everyone standing there waiting and did not seem to think they should let us know what was happening. In the end we gave up. I thought this was very unprofessional and a huge let down when we had made the trip especially. It disappoints me when restaurants don't think they have to treat their customers with respect just because they know that their reputation will still get enough customers through the door without having to bother. For me the true quality of a restaurant is how they continue to treat customers even when they are so popular. I would rather spend my money elsewhere, no matter how amazing...
Read moreEDIT/UPDATE: Went back this summer (2022) after 3 years (covid) and things have changed. Before covid they used to constantly top up the bar pintxos. Now, they offer 1 serving, from about 11.30am. And another from about 5.30pm. Once, what is offered from the bar has gone, am & pm, you must have a table, where you are served the specials only. There is nothing on the bar.The pintxos and drinks are bought to you. If you don't have a table, you queue for one. It's taken a little of the fun away, but a lot has changed post coved, everyone has had to adapt! Still, incredible food. ORIGINAL review: Easily the best pintxo bar in the fishermen's quarter. Yes it can be a bun fight to get served, but it works as the staff are on their game. Try the hot specials, which take longer to serve - your name is called out when...
Read moreIf you only had the chance to visit one pintxo bar in the world, this would be the one to choose. Their cold pintxos on the bar top are creative and inventive while still representing the classic traditional pintxos of the region. However, their hot menu of pintxos is extraordinarily daring, endlessly creative, and absolutely delicious. The creations here are works of art, and the chefs pour their affection of the form into every dish they put out. There is probably not a better price per quality ratio in any other bar or restaurant in the world because for just a few euros you can sample the very best of the...
